The Enthesopathy of Ankylosing Spondylitis

Rheumatology, 1983
The enthesopathic lesion of ankylosing spondylitis consists of a nonspecific, nongranulomatous inflammatory lesion which leads to destruction of the attachment of ligament to bone. Resulting erosion leads to reactive bone formation which may form a new enthesis and around the outer fibres of the annulus may lead to syndesmophyte formation.

GREATER TROCHANTER ENTHESOPATHY: AN EXAMPLE OF "SHORT COURSE RETINOID ENTHESOPATHY"

American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, 1999
Irreversible skeletal changes have been described in patients with dermatologic disorders treated with isotretinoin (Accutane), a synthetic vitamin A derivative. Clinical and experimental rheumatology, 1995
There is evidence of a close relationship between diabetes mellitus and disorders of the insertions of tendons, ligaments and articular capsules into bone (enthesopathies). Enthesopathies – Mechanical, inflammatory or both?

Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology
Entheses have the challenging task of transferring biomechanical forces between tendon and bone, two tissues that differ greatly in composition and mechanical properties. Consequently, entheses are adapted to withstand these forces through continuous repair mechanisms.
