Pest categorisation of the Andean Potato Weevil (APW) complex (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2020., 2020
Abstract The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of the species within the Andean Potato Weevil (APW) complex (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) for the EU. The complex consists of 14 species, 12 belong to the genus Premnotrypes, plus Phyrdenus muriceus and Rhigopsidius tucumanus.

Historical biogeography of the hyperdiverse hidden snout weevils (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Cryptorhynchinae)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 312-326, April 2020., 2020
The first dated phylogeny of the weevil subfamily Cryptorhynchinae is presented within a framework of Curculionoidea. Cryptorhynchinae originated c. 86 Ma in South America. Dispersal via Antarctica may have facilitated colonization of Australia in the Late Cretaceous, where a diverse Indo‐Australian clade emerged c. 73 Ma.

Mito-nuclear genetic comparison in a Wolbachia infected weevil: insights on reproductive mode, infection age and evolutionary forces shaping genetic variation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Maternally inherited endosymbionts like Wolbachia pipientis are in linkage disequilibrium with the mtDNA of their hosts. Therefore, they can induce selective sweeps, decreasing genetic diversity over many generations. This sex ratio distorter,

The complete mitochondrial genome of Sympiezomias velatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2017
Here, we determined the complete mitogenome sequence of Sympiezomias velatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae). This mitogenome was 15,592 bp long with an A + T content of 74.1% and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 21 transfer RNA genes ...

Development and characterization of microsatellite loci in the Centricnemus leucogrammus weevil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Centricnemus leucogrammus is a weevil characteristic of European xerothermic habitats and steppes. The species was probably more widespread during the Pleistocene glaciations, while its current distribution is limited to “warm-stage refugia.” It may be ...

Descriptions of the mature larva and pupa of the Scaly strawberry weevil, Sciaphilus asperatus (Bonsdorff, 1785) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Entiminae) and observations of its biology [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2019
The mature larva of Sciaphilus asperatus is redescribed and illustrated, and the pupa is described for the first time. Supplements to the identification keys for larvae and pupae of selected Palaearctic Entiminae genera and species are given. Data on the
