Reasoning with enhanced temporal entity-relationship models

open access: yesProceedings. Tenth International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications. DEXA 99, 1999
Recent efforts in the Conceptual Modelling community have been devoted to properly capturing time-varying information, and several proposals of temporally enhanced entity-relationship (ER) exist. The work gives a logical formalisation of the various properties that characterise and extend different temporal ER models which are found in literature.

Evaluating the quality of entity relationship models

Information and Software Technology, 1995
Abstract Entity Relationship (E-R) models are at the core of logical database design. This paper describes the development of a model, associated metrics and methodology for assessing the quality of an E-R model. The model was developed by investigating into the causal relationships between ontological and behavioural factors influencing data quality.

Metrics for Evaluating the Quality of Entity Relationship Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
This paper defines a comprehensive set of metrics for evaluating the quality of Entity Relationship models. This is an extension of previous research which developed a conceptual framework and identified stakeholders and quality factors for evaluating data models.

A Generic Entity-Relationship Model.

open access: yes, 1989
The paper describes a general framework allowing the specification, comparison and conversion of most information and data models proposed in Information System design, be they conceptual or at the DBMS level. That framework is based on an extended N1NF relational model that includes the concept of entity domain.

Deductive entity relationship modeling

IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 1993
An entity relationship oriented model, that includes the notion of class, together with different types of assertions on classes, is presented. The assertions are used to model IS-A and disjointness relations both between entities and between relationships, part-of relations between entities and relationships, mandatory participation of an entity in a ...

The Entity-Relationship model

Proceedings of the 2012 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON), 2012
The importance of the Entity-Relationship in the understanding of data base design is discussed as is the relative importance that many Universities give to its teaching. The amount of time of those Universities, that allow public access to database program syllabuses, is contrasted and a simulation that allows the experimentation with various forms of

The Entity-Relationship Model

1999
The Entity-Relationship model (abbreviated to ER model) is a data model, which allows us to model the semantics of a conceptual database schema. Actually, the ER model is only a partial data model, since it only caters for the data structure and integrity constraint parts of a data model with no provision being made for a query and update language.

Expressing a Temporal Entity-Relationship Model as a Traditional Entity-Relationship Model

2015
According to the approach of conceptual database design, database models are designed from the Entity-Relationship (ER) model. However, the real world of most database applications are related to the temporal aspects, so data modelling using the ER diagrams had encountered many difficulties.

Evolution of entity–relationship modelling

Data & Knowledge Engineering, 2006
New modelling languages are continually being developed. Some of them are variants of existing ones, others are completely different, and a few become widely accepted. The overall variety of modelling languages can be explained by an evolutionary process that exhibits regularities.Evolution has been studied extensively in biology and linguistics.

Entity-relationship modeling

IEEE Potentials, 1995
The entity-relationship (ER) model and its accompanying ER diagrams are widely used for database design and systems analysis. Many books and articles just provide a definition of each modeling component and give examples of the pre-built ER diagrams.
