A new species of Entomobrya (Collembola, Entomobryidae) from southwestern France exhibiting conspicuous sexual dimorphism

open access: yesSoil Organisms, 2023
Entomobrya fourcesensis spec. nov. was found in an agricultural grassland habitat in the Occitanie region in SW France and described here based on adult females and males. Male habitus and colour pattern closely resemble those of E. schoetti (Stach, 1922)

Accumulation and diversity of airborne, eukaryotic environmental DNA

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1323-1339, November 2022., 2022
Acurate detection of species compositions using eDNA metabarcoding requires robust experimental designs due to the risk of contamination, but the nature of this contamination in the field is not well studied. Here, we use an experimental setup to show that airborne eukaryotic eDNA from a diverse set of taxa accumulates on exposed surfaces in the field.

Lost in dead wood? Environmental DNA sequencing from dead wood shows little signs of saproxylic beetles

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 654-660, May 2022., 2022
The needs for alternative methods for monitoring arthropods are increasing. We here tested eDNA metabarcoding for saproxylic beetles in dead wood. While a few samples showed traces of beetle DNA, the method needs to be improved. Our study makes a first step in developing a thorough protocol for approved application.

Environmental DNA metabarcoding of cow dung reveals taxonomic and functional diversity of invertebrate assemblages

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 30, Issue 13, Page 3374-3389, July 2021., 2021
Abstract Insects and other terrestrial invertebrates are declining in species richness and abundance. This includes the invertebrates associated with herbivore dung, which have been negatively affected by grazing abandonment and the progressive loss of large herbivores since the Late Pleistocene.
