Cellular Mechanisms of Entrainment

Chronobiology International, 1992
This review summarizes our current understanding of the signal transduction cascade by which light causes phase shifts of the circadian oscillators found in the eye of Bulla and Aplysia. The isolated retina of these marine mollusks contains a circadian oscillator, a photoreceptor, and a light transduction pathway sufficient for entrainment.

Reentry, Transient Entrainment, and Concealed Entrainment

2013
The primary objective of this chapter is to provide essential information as a reference to dissect the arrhythmogenic mechanisms useful in clinical practice. Reentry, transient entrainment, and concealed entrainment are reviewed.

On air entrainment in coatings

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2003
A series of experiments that clarify how air bubbles become entrained into coatings are described. The contact line dynamics at the air-liquid interface surrounding a fiber is characterized for a typical coating die operating under atmospheric and pressurized conditions.

Entraining gravity currents

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2013
AbstractEntrainment of ambient fluid into a gravity current, while often negligible in laboratory-scale flows, may become increasingly significant in large-scale natural flows. We present a theoretical study of the effect of this entrainment by augmenting a shallow water model for gravity currents under a deep ambient with a simple empirical model for ...

On the entrainment in nonprecipitating cumuli — Entrained air provenance

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1985
The paper deals with the testing of the cloud top entrainment hypothesis. The method is based on the works by Warner[1–3], Paluch[4] and Telford[5]. The levels at which the entrained air might originate were determined. Several types of successions of entrainment levels were found; in the upper parts of cumuli, entrainment from above the level of ...
