An information theoretic limit to data amplification

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
In recent years generative artificial intelligence has been used to create data to support scientific analysis. For example, generative adversarial networks (GANs) have been trained using Monte Carlo simulated input and then used to generate data for the

Propagation Properties of Shock Waves in Polyurethane Foam based on Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesDefence Technology
Porous materials are widely used in the field of protection because of their excellent energy absorption characteristics. In this work, a series of polyurethane microscopic models are established and the effect of porosity on the shock waves is studied ...

Entropy-Inflection Collapse in Five Dimensions

open access: yes
This work presents a five dimensional framework for quantum collapse that defines reduction as happening on entropy inflection surfaces where the flow of information flattens. The model is built on a corrected scalar operator that properly accounts for the radial volume measure and the spectrum of compact topologies.

Electrically Tunable Heliconical Smectic Superstructure in Polar Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Strong dipole–dipole interactions give rise to an emergent polar smectic phase with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. This resulting polar heliconical smectic superstructure enables novel functionalities in polar fluids, such as color modulation driven by electric field strength and frequency, as well as second‐harmonic generation amplification ...

Mapping inequality in power law and exponential distributions

open access: yesJournal of Physics Communications
We present a theoretically grounded, entropy-based method for localizing inequality in probability distributions using recursive Hahn decomposition of an entropy-derived signed measure, while illustrating its applicability through examples drawn from ...

Hybrid Amyloid–Boron Nitride Aerogels for Lightweight Sound Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Amyloid fibrils template the mild formation of boron nitride–rich hybrid aerogels with hierarchical porosity, enhanced BN‐like ordering, and fibril‐reinforced mechanics. These ultralight materials combine thermal stability with strong sound absorption and transmission loss, offering a sustainable bio‐assisted route toward lightweight acoustic shields ...

Phase-transition-induced Collapse of Proto-compact Stars and Its Implication for Supernova Explosions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A hadron–quark phase transition (PT) may trigger supernova explosions during stellar core collapse. However, both success and failure have occurred in previous attempts to explode dying stars via this mechanism.

Cross Entropy versus Label Smoothing: A Neural Collapse Perspective

open access: yesCoRR
Label smoothing loss is a widely adopted technique to mitigate overfitting in deep neural networks. This paper studies label smoothing from the perspective of Neural Collapse (NC), a powerful empirical and theoretical framework which characterizes model behavior during the terminal phase of training.

Recent Advances in Ferrite‐Based Materials for Biomedical Applications: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ferrite nanoplatforms are presented as tunable biomedical materials in which synthesis control, cation engineering, defect/morphology regulation, and surface functionalization govern structure–property–bioactivity relationships. These design strategies enable multifunctional applications including MRI contrast, magnetic hyperthermia, targeted drug ...

Study on the Influence of Tip Clearance on Cavitation Performance and Entropy Production of an Axial Flow Pump

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The clearance existing between the impeller rim and the adjacent shroud within the pump configuration establishes conducive circumstances for the initiation of cavitation. The bubbles generated by cavitation will flow forward with the water, blocking the
