Texture analysis using Renyi's generalized entropies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings 2003 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.03CH37429), 2004
In this paper, we propose a texture analysis method based on Renyi's generalized entropies. The method aims at identifying texels in regular textures by searching for the smallest window through which the minimum number of different visual patterns is observed when moving the window over a given texture.

Performance optimization of centrifugal pump based on particle swarm optimization and entropy generation theory

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
Centrifugal pumps are frequently utilized in general machinery, but they have issues with low efficiency, unstable operation, and high-power consumption in actual engineering, making performance improvements necessary.

The Exergy Losses Analysis in Adiabatic Combustion Systems including the Exhaust Gas Exergy

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
The entropy generation analysis of adiabatic combustion systems was performed to quantify the exergy losses which are mainly the exergy destroyed during combustion inside the chamber and in the exhaust gases. The purpose of the present work was therefore:

General multifractal analysis of local entropies [PDF]

open access: yesFundamenta Mathematicae, 2000
The multifractal analysis of a dynamical system measures local characteristics like local Hausdorff dimension, local entropies, and Lyapunov exponents. Here the authors give an extensive treatment for the local entropies introduced by \textit{M. Brin} and \textit{S. Katok} [Geometric dynamics, Lect. Notes Math. 1007, 30-38 (1983; Zbl 0533.58020)].

Analysis of Local Exergy Losses in Combustion Systems Using a Hybrid Filtered Eulerian Stochastic Field Coupled with Detailed Chemistry Tabulation: Cases of Flames D and E

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
A second law analysis in combustion systems is performed along with an exergy loss study by quantifying the entropy generation sources using, for the first time, three different approaches: a classical-thermodynamics-based approach, a novel turbulence ...

Multivariate Generalized Multiscale Entropy Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
Multiscale entropy (MSE) was introduced in the 2000s to quantify systems’ complexity. MSE relies on (i) a coarse-graining procedure to derive a set of time series representing the system dynamics on different time scales; (ii) the computation of the sample entropy for each coarse-grained time series.

Local entropy generation analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Second law analysis techniques have been widely used to evaluate the sources of irreversibility in components and systems of components but the evaluation of local sources of irreversibility in thermal processes has received little attention. While analytical procedures for evaluating local entropy generation have been developed, applications have been

Comprehensive Thermodynamic Analysis of He–Xe in Microchannels with Different Structures

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
He–Xe, with a 40 g/mol molar mass, is considered one of the most promising working media in a space-confined Brayton cycle. The thermodynamic performance of He–Xe in different configuration channels is investigated in this paper to provide a basis for ...

Performance Comparison of Different Flat Plate Solar Collectors by Means of the Entropy Generation Rate Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
In this work, a numerical analysis of three different flat plate solar collectors was conducted using their entropy generation rates. Specifically, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique was used to compare the detailed performance of ...
