Evaluation of Rural Human Settlement Development Quality and Impact Analysis: Empirical Evidence from China’s Micro Survey?

open access: yesLand
Improving the quality of rural human settlements is a key objective in China’s rural revitalization strategy. The purpose of this study is to construct and evaluate the quality of rural human settlements in China from a micro perspective. To achieve this

Relative entropy methods for hyperbolic and diffusive limits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We review the relative entropy method in the context of hyperbolic and diffusive relaxation limits of entropy solutions for various hyperbolic models.

Affordable, Entropy Conserving and Entropy Stable Flux Functions for the Ideal MHD Equations

open access: yes, 2015
In this work, we design an entropy stable, finite volume approximation for the ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations. The method is novel as we design an affordable analytical expression of the numerical interface flux function that discretely ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Statistical properties of entropy production derived from fluctuation theorems

open access: yes, 2010
Several implications of well-known fluctuation theorems, on the statistical properties of the entropy production, are studied using various approaches. We begin by deriving a tight lower bound on the variance of the entropy production for a given mean of

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

QCD Level Density from Maximum Entropy Method

open access: yes, 2005
We propose a method to calculate the QCD level density directly from the thermodynamic quantities obtained by lattice QCD simulations with the use of the maximum entropy method (MEM).

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
