Entropy Generation during Head-On Interaction of Premixed Flames with Inert Walls within Turbulent Boundary Layers

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
The statistical behaviours of different entropy generation mechanisms in the head-on interaction of turbulent premixed flames with a chemically inert wall within turbulent boundary layers have been analysed using Direct Numerical Simulation data.

Mixing k-Fold Independent Processes of Zero Entropy [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1993
For each fixed k k we give a simple construction of a stochastic process ( X n ) ({X_n}) which is mixing, has zero entropy, and such that any k k -tuple of the X n {X_n} are ...

Exploration of high entropy ceramics (HECs) with computational thermodynamics - A case study with LaMnO3±δ

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
The concept of the new category materials high entropy ceramics (HECs) has been proposed several years ago, which is directly borrowed from high entropy alloys (HEAs). It quickly attracts a lot of interests and displays promising properties.

A derivation of entropy of mixing [PDF]

open access: yesRadiation Physics and Chemistry (1977), 1984
Abstract A simple method is proposed for obtaining the generally accepted formula of the concentration dependence of entropy in ideal solutions. The derivation, while implying a new definition of ideal mixtures, is independent both of macroscopic material properties and microscopic models.

Chaotic characteristics enhanced by impeller of perturbed six-bent-bladed turbine in stirred tank

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
The fundamental way of improving the mixing efficiency is to induce the chaotic flow in a stirred vessel. The impeller form plays an important role for changing the structure of flow field and realizing chaotic mixing.

Negative Entropy of Mixing for Vanadium-Platinum Solutions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2004
The phonon densities of states for pure vanadium and the solid solutions V-6.25% Ni, Pd, Pt were determined from inelastic neutron scattering measurements. The solute atoms caused a large stiffening of the phonons, resulting in large, negative vibrational entropies of mixing.

Estimation of Entropy Generation in a SCR-DeNOx System with AdBlue Spray Dynamic Using Large Eddy Simulation

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
In this work, the entropy generation analysis is extended to the multi-phase fluid flow within a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) framework. The selected study case consists of a generic selective catalytic reduction (SCR) configuration in which the water ...

The Gibbs Paradox: Lessons from Thermodynamics

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The Gibbs paradox in statistical mechanics is often taken to indicate that already in the classical domain particles should be treated as fundamentally indistinguishable.

The Gibbs Paradox

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The Gibbs Paradox is essentially a set of open questions as to how sameness of gases or fluids (or masses, more generally) are to be treated in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

Topological structure and entropy of mixing graph maps [PDF]

open access: yesErgodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 2013
AbstractLet ${ \mathcal{P} }_{G} $ be the family of all topologically mixing, but not exact self-maps of a topological graph $G$. It is proved that the infimum of topological entropies of maps from ${ \mathcal{P} }_{G} $ is bounded from below by $\log 3/ \Lambda (G)$, where $\Lambda (G)$ is a constant depending on the combinatorial structure of $G ...
