Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Statistical properties of entropy production derived from fluctuation theorems
Several implications of well-known fluctuation theorems, on the statistical properties of the entropy production, are studied using various approaches. We begin by deriving a tight lower bound on the variance of the entropy production for a given mean of

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Photosynthesis and negative entropy production
The widely held view that the maximum efficiency of a photosynthetic pigment system is given by the Carnot cycle expression (1-T/Tr) for energy transfer from a hot bath (radiation at temperature Tr) to a cold bath (pigment system at temperature T) is critically examined and demonstrated to be inaccurate when the entropy changes associated with the ...

Entropy production for coarse-grained dynamics
Systems out of equilibrium exhibit a net production of entropy. We study the dynamics of a stochastic system represented by a Master equation (ME) that can be modeled by a Fokker–Planck equation in a coarse-grained, mesoscopic description.

Measuring the irreversibility of numerical schemes for reversible stochastic differential equations [PDF]
. For a Markov process the detailed balance condition is equivalent to the time-reversibility of the process. For stochastic differential equations (SDE’s) time discretization numerical schemes usually destroy the property of time-reversibility.

Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Entropy Production-Based Energy Efficiency Optimization for Wireless Communication Systems
The relationship between energy dissipation and information has been extensively studied in the emerging field of stochastic thermodynamics, where entropy production plays a core role in measuring the energy loss of irreversible processes. To analyze and

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
