An integrative dynamic model of Colombian population distribution, based on the maximum entropy principle and matter, energy, and information flow [PDF]
Human society has increased its capacity to exploit natural resources thanks to new technologies, which are one of the results of information exchange in the knowledge society.

Developing advanced materials with a high-entropy concept is one of the hot trends in materials science. The configurational entropy of high-entropy materials can be tuned by introducing different atomic species, which can also impart a result in ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

From Maximum Entropy to Maximum Entropy Production: A New Approach
Evidence from climate science suggests that a principle of maximum thermodynamic entropy production can be used to make predictions about some physical systems.

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Spectral Entropy in a Boundary-Layer Flow
This article presents a comparison of the entropy production in a laminar and transitional boundary layer flow with the spectral entropy produced in a region of instability induced by an imposed periodic disturbance.

A Cost-Efficient and Reliable Resource Allocation Model Based on Cellular Automaton Entropy for Cloud Project Scheduling [PDF]
Resource allocation optimization is a typical cloud project scheduling problem: a problem that limits a cloud system’s ability to execute and deliver a project as originally planned.

Prediction and evaluation of zero order entropy changes in grammar-based codes [PDF]
The change of zero order entropy is studied over different strategies of grammar production rule selection. The two major rules are distinguished: transformations leaving the message size intact and substitution functions changing the message size ...
