Entropy production and plasma relaxation
Physical Review A, 1987Plasma relaxation, as well as the relaxation of more general diffusive systems, is discussed from a dynamical point of view. It is shown that a state which minimizes the rate of entropy production, as suitably defined, attracts neighboring states and thus causes relaxation.

Entropy and Entropy Production
1973The limitations of a thermodynamic theory of a continuum by the atomic structure of matter are briefly discussed. They imply that any thermodynamic theory is of an approximate nature. Main emphasis is laid on the concept of a nonequilibrium entropy. It is shown that to an isothermal electrical network one can apply thermodynamic reasoning.

Annals of Physics, 2008
The paper's methodology traces back to Prigogine's theory of irreversible systems and an issue of irreversible time evolution in Onsager's formulation. The super-operator technique is developed, based on earlier papers of the present Author, with the aim of reconciling the conceptual background of an irreversible dynamics with principles of standard ...

Principle of Minimum Entropy Production
Physical Review, 1954The principle of minimum entropy production says that the steady state of an irreversible process, i.e., the state in which the thermodynamic variables are independent of the time, is characterized by a minimum value of the rate of entropy production.

Freezing-in and production of entropy in vitrification
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006Following the classical concepts developed by Simon [Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 203, 219 (1931)], vitrification in the cooling of glass-forming melts is commonly interpreted as the transformation of a thermodynamically (meta)stable equilibrium system into a frozen-in, thermodynamically nonequilibrium system, the glass.

Entropy and entropy production for the Kac's model
Bulletin de la Classe des sciences, 1974Using a probabilistic model due to Kac and called by him a caricature of the dilute hard sphere gas, we compute the entropy and entropy production according to the generalized definitions proposed by the Brussels group. As the generalized ℋ-theorem describes the approach to equilibrium of the whole system, correlations play a role even if they are such

Transformation properties of entropy production
Physical Review E, 2011The transformation properties of entropy production under phase-space partitioning, lumping, or the elimination of intermediate steps and variables in the presence of widely separated time scales are studied. Conditions are derived under which dissipation remains invariant.

Principle of Minimum Entropy Production
Physical Review, 1957Prigogine has shown that in the steady state in which certain macroscopic affinities ${F}_{1}, {F}_{2}, \ensuremath{\cdots} {F}_{k}$ are fixed and other macroscopic affinities ${F}_{k+1}, {F}_{k+2}, \ensuremath{\cdots} {F}_{r}$ are unconstrained, the values assumed by the unconstrained affinities are such as to minimize the rate of production of ...
