Abstract We investigate the case of a dynamical system when irreversible time evolution is generated by a nonHermitian superoperator on the states of the system. We introduce a generalized scalar product which can be used to construct a monotonically changing functional of the state, a generalized entropy.

Entropy and Entropy Production
1973The limitations of a thermodynamic theory of a continuum by the atomic structure of matter are briefly discussed. They imply that any thermodynamic theory is of an approximate nature. Main emphasis is laid on the concept of a nonequilibrium entropy. It is shown that to an isothermal electrical network one can apply thermodynamic reasoning.

Entropy and entropy production for the Kac's model
Bulletin de la Classe des sciences, 1974Using a probabilistic model due to Kac and called by him a caricature of the dilute hard sphere gas, we compute the entropy and entropy production according to the generalized definitions proposed by the Brussels group. As the generalized ℋ-theorem describes the approach to equilibrium of the whole system, correlations play a role even if they are such

Minimum entropy production in photosynthesis
Biophysical Chemistry, 2001In this paper a flux-coupling model of photosynthesis is presented. By requiring minimum entropy production, it is found that the photosynthetic efficiency is essentially given by the square root of D/lambda. D and lambda are the diffusion coefficient and thermal conductivity of the rate-limiting processes in the chloroplast, respectively.

On the Rate of Irreversible Production of Entropy
Progress of Theoretical Physics, 1952In the case of some gaseous substances (a simple gas, a gaseous mixture of reacting molecules, and free electrons in metals) the equation of entropy transport is derived from the Boltzmann's kinetic theory. The definition of entropy used in this derivation is the one given by the Boltzmann's H-functiona!.
