Cohabitation, convergence, and environmental covariances

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1986
AbstractTemporal variation in traits has long been a central theme in epidemiology. However, human geneticists have largely avoided this topic. Recently, several authors have shown how temporal variation in relative‐to‐relative covariances can be accommodated within the framework of variance components analysis.

Environmental dynamics modulate covariation of choice and timing

Behavioural Processes, 2016
Response allocation between delayed reinforcers is presumably a function of the discrimination of those delays. In the present experiment, we analyzed the functional relation between response allocation and temporal discrimination across different environmental dynamics. Three pigeons pecked for food in a concurrent-chain schedule.

Seasonality of suicides: environmental, sociological and biological covariations

Journal of Affective Disorders, 1987
The monthly rates of completed suicides in France from 1978 until 1982 were analyzed. The seasonal variations of environmental (daylight and sunlight durations, mean temperature, geomagnetism), sociological (unemployment, deaths of all causes, birth and conception rates), and biological (melatonin, cortisol and serotonin circannual rhythms) factors ...

Extending Finlay-Wilkinson regression with environmental covariates

2022
AbstractFinlay-Wilkinson regression is one of the most popular methods for analysing genotype-environment interaction in series of plant breeding and variety trials. The method involves a regression on the environmental mean, computed as the average of all genotype means.

Socioeconomic and environmental covariates of premature mortality in Ontario

Social Science & Medicine, 1998
This paper contributes to debates on the broad determinants of health and on the policy shift from curative to preventive and protective interventions. It addresses empirically the relative importance of influences on health with a multiple regression analysis of ecologic data from the 49 counties of Ontario.

Product-sum covariance for space-time modeling: an environmental application

Environmetrics, 2000
In this paper a product-sum covariance for space-time modeling of nitrogen dioxide in the Milan district is introduced. Residuals have been generated for all stations after the removal of daily and seasonal trends, which are readily interpretable, in order to estimate and model the spatial-temporal variogram.

Genetic and environmental influences on covariation in reproducible diet–metabolite associations

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2021
Early applications of metabolomics in nutrition and health research identified associations between dietary patterns and metabolomic profiles. Twin studies show that diet-related phenotypes and diet-associated metabolites are influenced by genes.

Sex steroids at birth: Genetic and environmental variation and covariation

Developmental Psychobiology, 1991
AbstractThree sex‐steroids (estradiol, progesterone, & testosterone) were assayed from the umbilical cord blood of 58 same‐sex twin pairs in an investigation of the effects of sex, as well as genetic and environmental factors, on neonatal hormone levels.

Analysis of Spatial Covariance Structure for Environmental Data

2005
Formulation and evaluation of environmental policy depend upon a general class of latent variable models known as multivariate receptor models. Estimation of the number of pollution sources, the source composition profiles and the source contributions are the main interests in multivariate receptor modelling.
