A Comprehensive Evaluation of Machine Learning Algorithms for Digital Soil Organic Carbon Mapping on a National Scale

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The aim of this study was to narrow the research gap of ambiguity in which machine learning algorithms should be selected for evaluation in digital soil organic carbon (SOC) mapping.

Bayesian analysis of the linear reaction norm model with unknown covariate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The reaction norm model is becoming a popular approach for the analysis of G x E interactions. In a classical reaction norm model, the expression of a genotype in different environments is described as a linear function (a reaction norm) of an ...

Neurobehavioral function and low-level exposure to brominated flame retardants in adolescents : a cross-sectional study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Animal and in vitro studies demonstrated a neurotoxic potential of brominated flame retardants, a group of chemicals used in many household and commercial products to prevent fire.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Ground-Active Arthropod Diversity Under Energycane and Biomass Sorghum Production

open access: yesInsects
Energycane and biomass sorghum are two of the most promising cellulosic energy crops in the southeastern US. Research on these two energy crops has focused mainly on biomass production, and there is a lack of knowledge on their ability to promote ...

Environmental effects on the covariation among pace‐of‐life traits

open access: yesEthology, 2019
Abstract Pace‐of‐life syndromes (POLSs) are suites of life‐history, physiological and behavioural traits that arise due to trade‐offs between allocation to current and future reproduction. Traits generally show covariation that can arise from genetic and environmental influences on phenotypes and constrain the independent evolution of

'It is like a tomato stall where someone can pick what he likes': structure and practices of female sex work in Kampala, Uganda. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Effective interventions among female sex workers require a thorough knowledge of the context of local sex industries. We explore the organisation of female sex work in a low socio-economic setting in Kampala, Uganda.

Network Localization of Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fatigue is among the most common symptoms and one of the main factors determining the quality of life in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying fatigue are not fully understood. Here we studied lesion locations and their connections in individuals with MS, aiming to identify brain networks ...

Incorporation of environmental covariates to nonlinear mixed models describing fruit growth

open access: yesRIA: Revista Investigaciones Agropecuarias, 2023
El pronóstico de cosecha es un gran desafío en la producción de peras. Estimar el tamaño de los frutos a partir de curvas de crecimiento permite predecir tanto la cantidad como la calidad de la fruta para cosecha.

Widespread covariation of early environmental exposures and trait-associated polygenic variation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2017
Significance Environmental exposures are among the best predictors of health and educational outcomes. Models that estimate the effect of environmental exposures on developmental outcomes typically ignore genetic factors or focus on gene–environment interaction (whether individuals’ response to environmental exposures depends on their ...
