In Situ Constructed Magnetic Core‐Shell Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework‐on‐Metal–Organic Framework Structure: an Efficient Catalyst for Peroxymonosulfate Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...

Developing an environmental equity index for urban heat wave event

open access: yesEnvironmental and Sustainability Indicators
Societal “imbalance” and “injustice” are key concerns during heatwaves that are considered a typical climate change phenomenon. However, our understanding of precise ways to measure and respond to environmental justice needs remains limited.

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Impact of Warehouse Expansion on Ambient PM2.5 and Elemental Carbon Levels in Southern California's Disadvantaged Communities: A Two‐Decade Analysis

open access: yesGeoHealth
Over the past two decades, the surge in warehouse construction near seaports and in economically lower‐cost land areas has intensified product transportation and e‐commerce activities, particularly affecting air quality and health in nearby socially ...

Bias‐Free Highly Efficient and Stable Dye‐Sensitized Photoelectrochemical Cells via Cascade Charge Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A buried‐junction DSPEC design is introduced that leverages cascade charge transfer to enhance efficiency, stability, and versatility. This approach facilitates effective charge transfer and minimizes recombination losses, leading to significant improvements.

Environmental health and justice screening tools: a critical examination and path forward

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Health
This manuscript critically examines the landscape of public-facing web-based environmental health (EH) and environmental justice (EJ) screening tools aimed at mitigating environmental health crises that are involved in a substantial percentage of deaths ...

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Combinatorial Synthesis of Next Generation Water‐Soluble Quaternized N‐Halamine Oligomers with Long‐Lasting Antiviral Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A combinatorial library of dual‐functional antiviral oligomers incorporating N‐halamine and quaternary ammonium functionalities is developed for long‐lasting antiviral activity. The lead materials exhibit rapid and durable antiviral activity against SARS‐CoV‐2 variants and influenza H1N1, with 4 to 5 log reduction in viral copies at 5 mg mL−1 ...

“In Community with a Tree”: A Collaborative Narrative Inquiry on Forest Therapy’s Embodied Pedagogies

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Environmental Education
As a possibility for critical forest-based pedagogies, our study explores the pedagogical implications of forest therapy to address environmental justice as social justice in teacher preparation (Beltrán, Hacker and Begun, 2016). Our research question is:
