The brain networks that are affected to give rise to the distinctive symptoms of PME are less well understood. MSP1 results in various phenotypes including progressive myopathy, Paget's disease of bone, frontotemporal dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and parkinsonism, among others.
