Heterogeneity in Environmental Demand

Annual Review of Resource Economics, 2013
Heterogeneity is a defining characteristic of environmental demand studies that use household-level data. People make different choices due to observed and unobserved differences in preferences and constraints, choice elements are quality-differentiated commodities that can be consumed in different ways, and observed characteristics of people are ...

Macrophages: plastic solutions to environmental heterogeneity

Inflammation Research, 2013
Macrophages are among the oldest cell types in the animal kingdom, and they have a long evolutionary history and experience various evolutionary pressures. It was clear from the earliest studies that variations exist in macrophage populations. Macrophages are known to adapt to their microenvironment.

Environmentally induced dispersal under heterogeneous logistic growth

Mathematical Biosciences, 2006
We consider a single-species model which is composed of several habitats connected by linear migration rates and having logistic growth. A spatially varying, temporally constant environment is introduced by the non-homogeneity of its carrying capacity.

Heterogeneous environmental policies and employment: evidence from China

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2023
This paper attempts to investigate how the rapid development of China's environmental policy contributes to the changes in China's labour market. We first categorise the environmental regulations into (i) command-and-control policies, (ii) economic incentive policies, and (iii) voluntary environmental agreements (VEAs).

Modelling environmental heterogeneity in forested landscapes

Journal of Hydrology, 1993
Abstract Models for estimating the spatial distribution of radiation, thermal and hydrologic regimes in topographically complex forested catchments are presented. These models use topographic attributes derived from a grid-based digital elevation model (DEM) as the primary input data.

Pesticides, Preference Heterogeneity and Environmental Taxes

Journal of Agricultural Economics, 2008
AbstractIn this paper we present results from two choice experiments (CE), designed to take account of the different negative externalities associated with pesticide use in agricultural production. For cereal production, the most probable impact of pesticide use is a reduction in environmental quality.

Global environmental standards with heterogeneous polluters

International Review of Economics & Finance, 2016
We introduce environmental quality standards into a model of intra-industry trade with heterogeneous polluters. Pollution stems from consumption and pollution intensity declines with product-specific environmental quality. We formally analyze the effects of global environmental standards and three trade-liberalization policies.

Teaching hatchery cod about environmental heterogeneity

Journal of Fish Biology, 2003
Restocking fish species may be one way to overcome problems of overfishing or dwindling natural populations. To date, most restocking programs have failed. We believe that these failures are, in part, due to the sparse, uniform rearing environment that fails to teach the fish about heterogeneity.

Environmental Uncertainty and Economic Heterogeneity

2015
This paper-based dissertation deals with the concepts of economic heterogeneity and environmental uncertainty from different perspectives, and at multiple levels of abstraction. At its core sits the observation that heterogeneity and uncertainty are deeply entangled, for there would be no uncertainty without heterogeneity of options to act regarding ...

Fungal translocation – creating and responding to environmental heterogeneity

Mycologist, 2004
It has been known for a long time that fungi may transport substances in their hyphae. Experiments using radioactive tracer isotopes have greatly expanded our knowledge about translocation and have revealed that many fungi may circulate resources throughout their mycelia. This article outlines a conceptual framework for when and where net-translocation
