Nonexponential quantum decay under environmental decoherence [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 119, 130401 (2017), 2017
An unstable quantum state generally decays following an exponential law, as environmental decoherence is expected to prevent the decay products from recombining to reconstruct the initial state. Here we show the existence of deviations from exponential decay in open quantum systems under very general conditions.

Executive Environmental Law [PDF]

open access: yesThe Modern Law Review, 2019
AbstractThe Draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill published by DEFRA in late 2018 is part of a process of reimagining environmental law in light of Brexit. The Draft Bill creates frameworks for policy statements on environmental principles and environmental implementation plans, as well as creating a new enforcement body – the Office for ...

Towards linking environmental law and science

open access: yesFacets, 2018
Gaps between environmental science and environmental law may undermine sound environmental decision-making. We link perspectives and insights from science and law to highlight opportunities and challenges at the environmental science–law interface.

Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially

Environmental protection through criminal law [PDF]

open access: yesZbornik Radova: Pravni Fakultet u Novom Sadu, 2011
Environmental protection is undoubtedly one of the priorities of today, both nationally and internationally. Environment is understood as the totality of natural and man-made values. Environment is primarily protected through administrative and civil law.

Semantic Representation of Low‐Cycle‐Fatigue Testing Data Using a Fatigue Test Ontology and ckan.kupferdigital Data Management System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces an automated approach for converting the raw research data (use case of low‐cycle‐fatigue testing dataset) to machine‐readable resource description framework ones and storing them in an open digital repository. As two main prerequisites for this data digitalization process, the development of fatigue testing ontology and ckan ...

Environment induced Symmetry Breaking of the Oscillation-Death State [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 98, 032223 (2018), 2018
We investigate the impact of a common external system, which we call a common environment, on the Oscillator Death (OD) states of a group of Stuart-Landau oscillators. The group of oscillators yield a completely symmetric OD state when uncoupled to the external system, i.e. the two OD states occur with equal probability.

PERFORMATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

open access: yesThe Modern Law Review
Performative law is law ‘just for show’. Where the law expresses a commitment to targets, objectives and aspirations which are, in a strict sense, legally binding, but which are ultimately hard to formally enforce, it can take on a highly symbolic or gestural appearance. Environmental law is particularly vulnerable to performativity. This is because of

Bridging Nature and Technology: A Perspective on Role of Machine Learning in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing the development of bioinspired ceramics. This article investigates how ML can be used to design new ceramic materials with exceptional performance, inspired by the structures found in nature. The research highlights how ML can predict material properties, optimize designs, and create advanced models to unlock a ...

Simulation of Inhomogeneous Refractive Index Fields Induced by Hot Tailored Forming Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a simulation model for simulating inhomogeneous refractive index fields (IRIF) in hot‐forged components, accounting for thermal influences and complex geometries. Through this simulation, a priori knowledge about the propagation of the IRIF can be obtained, allowing for the positioning of the component or an optical measurement ...
