Environmental Magnetism: A Brief Review

open access: yesJournal of Geography (Chigaku Zasshi), 2005
The present status of environmental magnetism is briefly reviewed as it might not be widely know in Japan. The principal purpose of environmental magnetism is to elucidate the process of material transportation on Earth's surface through various magnetic methods either in the past (paleoenvironmental studies) or present day (pollution studies).

Magnetic properties of cherts from the Basque-Cantabrian basin and surrounding regions: archeological implications

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2016
We present the first rock magnetic study of archeologically-relevant chert samples from the Basque-Cantabrian basin (BCB) and surrounding regions, which was conducted in order to test the usefulness of non-destructive magnetic properties for assessing ...

Ecorc’Air: A Citizen Science Project for the Biomonitoring of Vehicular Air Pollution in Paris, France

open access: yesCommunity Science
Airborne particulate matter (PM) is known to have adverse health effects and is a growing concern in urban areas. Spatial and temporal variability is difficult to assess with the few air quality stations typically available in cities.

Cooling Following the Magnetic Field Weakening During the Matuyama–Brunhes Transition Recorded by Paks Loess, Hungary

open access: yesQuaternary
Detailed paleomagnetic and rock magnetic investigations of the Paks loess (Hungary) were conducted to determine the stratigraphic position of the Matuyama–Brunhes Transition (MBT) and to attempt to reveal the sign of any possible influences of ...

Unraveling the Enrichment Mechanisms of Rare Earth Elements in Deep‐Sea Sediments: An Environmental Magnetic Perspective

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Deep‐sea rare earth elements and yttrium (REY)‐rich sediments have attracted considerable attention since their discovery in 2011. However, the environmental factors controlling REY enrichment remain poorly understood, largely because paleoceanographic ...

Hydroclimatic Changes Revealed by Multiple Proxies Since the Last Glacial Maximum from the Core Monsoon Zone of India

open access: yesQuaternary
We present multiproxy records from a 2.25-m-long lake sediment profile from central India, which suggested that between ~22,200 and 18,658 cal yr BP, the Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) was weak, supporting open vegetation in a cool and dry climate, which is

Magnetic stratigraphy and environmental magnetism of oceanic sediments

open access: yes, 2006
This dissertation presents the results of chronostratigraphic studies on marine sediment cores from three Oceans. Using a combination of magnetic stratigraphy, biostratigraphy and cycle stratigraphy it is possible to produce chronostratigraphies that exceed the resolution of any individual technique.
