Niche Modeling of Dengue Fever Using Remotely Sensed Environmental Factors and BRT

open access: yesOnline Journal of Public Health Informatics, 2018
ObjectiveIn this paper we used Boosted Regression Tree analysis coupled with environmental factors gathered from satellite data, such as temperature, elevation, and precipitation, to model the niche of Dengue Fever (DF) in Colombia.IntroductionDengue Fever (DF) is a vector-borne disease of the flavivirus family carried by the Aedes aegypti mosquito ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Quantitative methods demonstrate that environment alone is an insufficient predictor of present-day language distributions in New Guinea.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Environmental parameters constrain the distributions of plant and animal species. A key question is to what extent does environment influence human behavior.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Telebasis vulcanoae (Machado, 1980) (Odonata: Coenagrionidae): discovery of a population in Northeastern Brazil and potential distribution in South America

open access: yesEntomological Communications
In this study, we report the first record of Telebasis vulcanoae (Machado 1980) in the state of Sergipe, Northeastern Brazil, expanding its known distribution previously restricted to Minas Gerais and Bahia. Specimens were collected on the campus of the
