Decoupling Seasonal Seismic Velocity Changes on Slow‐Moving Slopes in Southwest China Using Tree Ensemble Machine Learning

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Changes in seismic properties can help assess slope damage, which is influenced by external factors such as temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, air pressure, and local seismicity. However, the contributions of these factors, and how the dominant factor modulates transient and seasonal seismic velocity changes (δv/v $\delta v/v$), remain ...

Case‐Selective Dynamical Downscaling Enables a Tenfold Cost Reduction for Extreme Precipitation Statistics

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract High‐resolution climate simulations are essential to study sub‐daily extreme precipitation, yet their computational demands make long‐term large‐ensemble simulations over a large geographical region often infeasible. We introduce a case‐selective dynamical downscaling (CSDD) framework that reconstructs extreme precipitation statistics at ...

Evaluating TEMPO Formaldehyde Retrievals With Co‐Located Ground‐Based FTIR and Pandora Observations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Formaldehyde (HCHO) is an important proxy for volatile organic compounds and photochemical activity, with significant implications for air quality and atmospheric chemistry. The recently launched geostationary satellite instrument Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) provides the first‐ever hourly observations of HCHO and ...

Sirenomelia: A Review of European Prevalence Data and Epidemiological Analysis of 17 Cases Registered in Wales

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 118, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Sirenomelia is a rare congenital condition most notably characterized by a single lower limb. Previous studies have suggested a prevalence of approximately 1 per 100,000 births. However, in Wales 17 cases were recorded between 1998 and 2016, suggesting a higher rate of sirenomelia in this country.

International Collaborative Study on Human Papillomavirus Analytical Thresholds for Sensitivity and Specificity in Cervical Screening

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Human papillomavirus (HPV) assays vary regarding the minimum amount of virus they detect. We investigated analytical thresholds of HPV detection and cervical screening sensitivity and specificity. One hundred cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+) cases and 200 matched population‐based controls were obtained at the Swedish
