The evaluation of enzyme activities, especially their capacities, represents an important step towards the modelling of biochemical pathways in living organisms. The implementation of microplate technology enables the determination of up to >50 enzymes in relatively large numbers of samples and in various biological materials. Most of these enzymes are

Activities of Proteolytic Enzymes
2015Proteases, also known as proteinases or proteolytic enzymes, are a large group of hydrolases that catalyze the cleavage of peptide bonds in proteins to produce peptides and/or amino acids. Classification of proteolytic enzymes is based on three major criteria: type of reaction catalyzed, functional group of the active site, and type of molecular ...

Protein-Protein Communication and Enzyme Activation Mediated by a Synthetic Chemical Transducer.
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2015The design and function of a synthetic "chemical transducer" that can generate an unnatural communication channel between two proteins is described. Specifically, we show how this transducer enables platelet-derived growth factor to trigger (in vitro ...

The electromagnetic molecular electronic resonance (EMER) frequencies of the molecular chains of α-chymotrypsin are calculated. The chain length relations and coupling positions suggest a possible energy transfer, at the EMER frequencies, from one chain to the other.

Abstract Hydroxamates of peptides were formed from some peptides by incubating with pH5 enzyme, hydroxylamine and ATP. l -Leucyl- l -tyrosyl-hydroxamate was identified by paper chromatography. The formation of glycyl- l -leucyl-hydroxamate was dependent on ATP.

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the sulfate-activating enzymes. The two sulfate-activating enzymes, ATP-sulfurylase (ATP:sulfate adenylyltransferase; sulfate adenylyltransferase), and APS kinase (ATP: adenylylsuifate 3'-phosphotransferase; adenylylsulfate kinase), catalyze the activation of inorganic sulfate first to APS (adenosine- 5 ...

Secretagogue-induced digestive enzyme activation and cell injury in rat pancreatic acini.
American Journal of Physiology - Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1999The mechanisms responsible for intrapancreatic digestive enzyme activation as well as the relationship between that activation and cell injury during pancreatitis are not understood.

Corticosteroids and Enzyme Activity
1964Publisher Summary This chapter describes those enzymes that are altered following adrenalectomy or the administration of corticosteroids. The current literature on this subject is descriptive rather than interpretive. Although it bridges the interest of endocrinologists, pharmacologists, and biochemists, few answers are to be found at present to the ...
