Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Working Memory Training to Address Language Impairments in Aphasia: A Case Study. [PDF]

open access: yesBehav Neurol, 2021
Background. Traditionally, people with aphasia (PWA) are treated with impairment‐based language therapy to improve receptive and expressive language skills. In addition to language deficits, PWA are often affected by some level of working memory (WM) impairments.

Adaptation of The Scenario Test for Greek-speaking people with aphasia: A reliability and validity study. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Lang Commun Disord, 2022
Abstract Background Evidence‐based assessments for people with aphasia (PWA) in Greek are predominantly impairment based. Functional communication (FC) is usually underreported and neglected by clinicians. This study explores the adaptation and psychometric testing of the Greek (GR) version of The Scenario Test. The test assesses the everyday FC of PWA

Medicinal Plants in the Prevention and Treatment of Colon Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesOxid Med Cell Longev, 2019
The standard treatment for cancer is generally based on using cytotoxic drugs, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. However, the use of traditional treatments has received attention in recent years. The aim of the present work was to provide an overview of medicinal plants effective on colon cancer with special emphasis on bioactive components and ...

Episodic memory effects of gamma frequency precuneus transcranial magnetic stimulation in Alzheimer's disease: A randomized multiple baseline study

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 279-301, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Episodic memory decline is the prominent neuropsychological feature of typical Alzheimer's Disease (AD), for which current treatments have a limited clinical response. Recently, gamma entrainment therapy has been used as a non‐invasive treatment in AD, providing evidence that it may have the potential to alleviate brain pathology and improve ...

Charge Transfer Control of Emergent Magnetism at SrMnO3/LaMnO3 Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 9, Issue 34, December 2, 2022., 2022
The (LaMnO3)m/(SrMnO3)n (LMO)m/(SMO)n superlattices with m/n = 1 and 2 have been grown on SrTiO3(100) substrates by means of metalorganic aerosol deposition technique. It has been demonstrated that charge transfer (CT) at the SMO/LMO interface is influenced by the “m/n” ratio, thus, yielding a control of the emergent high‐TC ferromagnetic phase.

‘Uncircumcised boys’ and ‘girl Spartans’: Youth, Gender and Generation in Colonial Insurgencies and Counterinsurgency, c. 1954–59

open access: yesGender &History, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 536-556, July 2021., 2021
Abstract Both male and female youth were significant actors in anti‐colonial insurgencies, but their involvement has been neglected in existing historiographies due to the marginalisation of youth voices in colonial archives. This article analyses the causes of youth insurgency and colonial counterinsurgency responses in two British colonies, Kenya and

Performing Identity: The Case of the (Greek) Cypriot National Guard

open access: yesStudies in Ethnicity and Nationalism, Volume 21, Issue 1, Page 26-45, April 2021., 2021
Abstract Students of International Relations are taught that the modern nation‐state has a monopoly on the (legitimate) use of violence. However, in the case of the Republic of Cyprus this does not seem to be the case, since its armed forces, the Cypriot National Guard (CNG), are intimately embedded within Greece’s military structure, and half the ...

Structural Basis for Specific Recognition of Substrates by Sapovirus Protease

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Sapovirus (SaV) protease catalyzes cleavage of the peptide bonds at six sites of a viral polyprotein for the viral replication and maturation. However, the mechanisms by which the protease recognizes the distinct sequences of the six cleavage sites ...

Catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide into dimethyl carbonate using reduced copper-cerium oxide catalysts as low as 353 K and 1.3 MPa and the reaction mechanism

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2013
Synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO2 and methanol under milder reaction conditions was performed using reduced cerium oxide catalysts and reduced copper-promoted Ce oxide catalysts. Although the conversion of methanol was low (0.005–0.11%) for

Correlation of prefrontal cortical activation with changing vehicle speeds in actual driving: a vector-based functional near-infrared spectroscopy study

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2013
Traffic accidents occur more frequently during deceleration than during acceleration. However, little is known about the relationship between brain activation and vehicle acceleration because it has been difficult to measure the brain activation of ...
