Provenance of present‐day eolian dust collected off NW Africa [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2005
Atmospheric dust samples collected along a transect off the West African coast have been investigated for their physical (grain‐size distribution), mineralogical, and chemical (major elements) composition. On the basis of these data the samples were grouped into sets of samples that most likely originated from the same source area.

Martian Eolian Dust Analyzed by ChemCam

open access: yes, 2019
The martian eolian dust chemical composition is homogeneous at the sub-mm scale. It is different from the Aeolis Palus soils and Bagnold sands with a larger content of FeO, TiO2 and lower hydration.

Reconstructing atmospheric changes in monsoon regions using eolian dust [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Mineral dust is generated in continental interiors and exported by winds to ocean basins, providing a sedimentary archive which is one of the few direct indicators we have of atmospheric circulation in the past. This archive can be utilized in regions of dust transport also affected by monsoons to examine how different climate forcing mechanisms impact

Modern eolian dust deposition in central Asia [PDF]

open access: yesTellus B: Chemical and Physical Meteorology, 1994
Glaciers around the globe provide a unique medium for investigating the temporal and spatial variation of dust deposition. Here we investigate the spatial and seasonal distribution of eolian dust deposition in central Asia through the analysis of concentrations and size distributions of insoluble particles (over the size range 1–22 μ m diameter) in ...

Dental Microwear Evidence of Holocene Dietary Variability in the Argentinian Pampas and Paraná Delta. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Biol Anthropol
ABSTRACT Objectives This study explores the subsistence strategies of Middle‐to‐Late Holocene human populations in the Argentinean Pampas and Paraná River Delta by analyzing dental microwear patterns. Materials and Methods We examined occlusal molar microwear textures of individuals from the Middle and Late Holocene recovered from 12 archaeological ...

Environmental Impact of Silicic Magmatism in Large Igneous Province Events

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 133-151., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Astronomical Forcing on Loess Deposition in the Junggar Basin Since the Late Pliocene

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Deciphering dust outbreak frequency in inland Asia during the late Cenozoic is important for predicting future hydroclimate in the arid parts of China.

Increased Terrigenous Supply to the Pelagic Panthalassa Superocean Across the Carnian Pluvial Episode: A Possible Link With Extensive Aridification in the Pangean Interior

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
In the Late Triassic, a global environmental change called the Carnian Pluvial Episode (CPE) emerged, causing major biological turnover. The CPE has been recognized by siliciclastic input to sedimentary basins, multiple carbon isotope perturbations, and ...

Atmospheric iron supply and marine productivity in the glacial North Pacific Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2021
Iron (Fe) is a key element in the Earth climate system, as it can enhance marine primary productivity in the high-nutrient low-chlorophyll (HNLC) regions where, despite a high concentration of major nutrients, chlorophyll production is low due to iron ...

The reconstruction of easterly wind directions for the Eifel region (Central Europe) during the period 40.3–12.9 ka BP [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2010
A high resolution continuous reconstruction of last glacial wind directions is based on provenance analysis of eolian sediments in a sediment core from the Dehner dry Maar in the Eifel region (Germany).
