Eosinophil Depletion with Benralizumab for Eosinophilic Esophagitis.
New England Journal of MedicineBACKGROUND Benralizumab is an eosinophil-depleting anti-interleukin-5 receptor α monoclonal antibody. The efficacy and safety of benralizumab in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis are unclear.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a clinicopathologic disease of increasing prevalence. Because EoE is a chronic disease, its prevalence will continue to increase. Antigen triggers, including food and aeroallergens, drive eosinophilic and T helper cell type 2 inflammation, resulting in subepithelial fibrosis; this esophageal remodeling is the likely ...

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a disease based on a clinicopathologic diagnosis that involves a localized eosinophilic inflammation of the esophagus. A significant increase in the diagnosis of pediatric EoE has occurred over the past 10 years not only due to a greater recognition of the disease among gastroenterologists, allergists, and pathologists

Esophageal dilation in eosinophilic esophagitis
Best Practice & Research Clinical Gastroenterology, 2015Tissue remodeling with scaring is common in adult EoE patients with long standing disease. This is the major factor contributing to their complaints of solid food dysphagia and recurrent food impactions. The best tests to define the degree of remodeling are barium esophagram, high resolution manometry and endoscopy.
