CORTICOTROPIN IN EOSINOPHILIC GRANULOMA

The effect of corticotropin (ACTH) on circulating eosinophils and certain collagen diseases led us to use it in a case of eosinophilic granuloma. We hoped that it would cause a regression of the lesion by its action on the proliferating collagenous stroma and on the masses of eosinophils contained therein.

Eosinophil granuloma of the spine is an uncommon lesion. Six patients with seven vertebral lesions were seen over the past 15 years. Clinical data and suggested pathomechanics relating to each patient are given. The latter correlates well with subsequent progress in each case.
