Macrocyclic Trichothecene Production by the Fungus Epibiont of Baccharis Coridifolia [PDF]
Cultures of the fungus epibiont from the herbaceous shrub B. coridifolia yielded four macrocyclic trichothecenes. As these toxins are the same as those found in B.

A survey of epibiont hydrozoans on Sargassum. [PDF]
The brown alga Sargassum provides a natural substrate occupied by hydrozoans in shallow marine waters. A global count in 2007 listed 39 epibiotic species of Hydrozoa growing on Sargassum, but more studies have been published since, therefore, an update is timely, particularly due to the increased abundance of Sargassum in the Caribbean.

Planes on a Snake? On the Identities of Crab Larvae Rafting on Sea Snakes. [PDF]
We sequenced COI and 16S rRNA genes from 106 crab megalopae found rafting on the pelagic sea snake Hydrophis platurus to test whether they were the obligate rafting species Planes minutus. Instead, all larvae belonged to three inter‐ to supratidal grapsid crabs—Pachygrapsus socius, Goniopsis pulchra, and Grapsus grapsus—revealing no evidence of Planes.

Epibionts in artificial collectors / Epibiontes en colectores artificiales
Artificial collectors are tools that explain the settlement dynamics of marine invertebrates. What is known about these in the Caribbean is very limited. In order to identify and quantify the diversity of epibionts in relation to depth, between December, 2015 and August, 2016, cylindrical collectors were suspended on a long line at varying depths.

Sea Turtle Epibiosis: Global Patterns and Knowledge Gaps
Competition for space drives many marine propagules to colonize the external surfaces of other marine organisms, a phenomenon known as epibiosis. Epibiosis appears to be a universal phenomenon among sea turtles and an extensive body of scientific ...

Report of rotifer-ciliate-gastropod hyperepibiosis found on snail (Mollusca) from Goa, India
Here we report a rotifer-ciliate-gastropod hyperepibiosis in freshwater canal, Goa, India. A rotifer Philodina cf. megalotrocha Ehrenberg, 1832 was found attached on the colony of Epistylis plicatilis Ehrenberg, 1838 which was epibiont on gastropod ...

On the move: sloths and their epibionts as model mobile ecosystems [PDF]
ABSTRACTSloths are unusual mobile ecosystems, containing a high diversity of epibionts living and growing in their fur as they climb slowly through the canopies of tropical forests. These epibionts include poorly studied algae, arthropods, fungi, and bacteria, making sloths likely reservoirs of unexplored biodiversity. This review aims to identify gaps

Planktivore effects on zooplankton epibiont communities: Epibiont pigmentation effects [PDF]
We observed the development of epibiont communities on freshwater crustacean zooplankton from 12 July–31 August 1991 in three ponds: one with planktivorous fish, a second with planktivorous larval salamanders, and a third with planktivorous fish added midway through the sampling period.

Sea turtles migrate thousands of miles annually between foraging and breeding areas, carrying dozens of epibiont species with them on their journeys. Most sea turtle epibiont studies have focused on large-sized organisms, those visible to the naked eye ...

Seagrass ecosystems have been indicated as the new hotspots of microplastics (MPs) in the marine environment. This work aimed at determining the potential of microplastics and epibionts accumulation on Enhalus acoroides leaves at the coast of Mare Island
