Outbreak of Marburg hemorrhagic fever among miners in Kamwenge and Ibanda Districts, Uganda, 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Marburg hemorrhagic fever was detected among 4 miners in Ibanda District, Uganda, from June through September, 2007. Infection was likely acquired through exposure to bats or bat secretions in a mine in Kamwenge District, Uganda, and possibly human-to ...

USP9X as a Candidate Mediator of Prenatal Aspirin‐Induced Ovarian Reserve Reduction in Offspring Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study suggests that prenatal aspirin exposure is associated with reduced ovarian reserve in offspring, associated with HDAC1‐linked epigenetic downregulation of Usp9x as a candidate mechanism. These preclinical findings provide new insights into fetal‐origin ovarian disorders and contribute to the evidence base concerning aspirin's gestational ...

Dysfunctional TRIM31 of POMC Neurons Provokes Hypothalamic Injury and Peripheral Metabolic Disorder under Long‐Term Fine Particulate Matter Exposure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Particulate matter ≤2.5 µm (PM2.5) elevates risks of neurological and chronic metabolic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms linking PM2.5‐induced central nervous system (CNS) injury to metabolic dysfunction remain unclear. Hypothalamic pro‐opiomelanocortin‐expressing (POMC+) neurons regulate systemic metabolic homeostasis, and tripartite motif ...

Precision Editing of NLRS Improves Effector Recognition for Enhanced Disease Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Precision engineering of plant NLR immune receptors enables rational design of enhanced pathogen resistance through mismatched pairing, domain swapping, and targeted mutagenesis. These approaches achieve multi‐fold expansion in recognition breadth while minimizing autoimmunity risks and fitness penalties.

Power and sample size considerations for test-negative design with bias correction: a case study on the world first malaria vaccine

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology
Background Test-negative design (TND) studies are increasingly common in evaluating vaccine effectiveness (VE) for various infectious diseases. TND studies are susceptible to bias due to disease outcome misclassification caused by imperfect test ...

One-year mortality of tuberculosis patients on isoniazid-based treatment and its association with rapid acetylator NAT2 genotypes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases
Background: NAT2 polymorphisms affect isoniazid metabolism, but their effect on mortality among individuals with tuberculosis (TB) remains unclear. Methods: This study used data from two TB cohorts (2005–2011, 2014–2020) and death certificate records in ...
