Genome-Wide Association Study for Maize Leaf Cuticular Conductance Identifies Candidate Genes Involved in the Regulation of Cuticle Development. [PDF]
The cuticle, a hydrophobic layer of cutin and waxes synthesized by plant epidermal cells, is the major barrier to water loss when stomata are closed at night and under water-limited conditions.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Could Inflammaging and Its Sequelae Be Prevented or Mitigated? [PDF]
Aged humans display a chronic and low-grade inflammation, termed "inflammaging", which has been potentially linked to the subsequent development of some aging-associated systemic disorders, including type 2 diabetes, atherosclerotic cardiovascular ...

Epidermal Barrier Function Is Impaired in Langerhans Cell-Depleted Mice.
TO THE EDITOR Langerhans cells (LCs) are members of dendritic cell lineage located in the epidermis and are the outermost antigen-presenting cells to encounter pathogens at the skin surface (Merad et al., 2008). The functional role of LCs has been widely

Emerging treatment options for the management of brain metastases in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. [PDF]
The widespread use of trastuzumab in the past decade has led to a significant and measureable improvement in the survival of patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) overexpressing breast cancer, and in many ways has redefined the ...

The role of barrier genes in epidermal malignancy [PDF]
The outermost layer of the mammalian skin, the epidermis, forms a protective barrier against pathogenic microbes and tissue dehydration. This barrier is formed and maintained by complex genetic networks that connect cellular differentiation processes, enzymatic activities and cellular junctions.
