Phytogeny of Epidermophyton floccosum and other dermatophytes

Mycopathologia, 1996
Eleven strains of Epidermophyton floccosum were compared with 5 Microsporum and 5 Trichophyton species with respect to the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of the mitochondrial DNA to reveal their phylogenetic relationships. The phylogeny of 11 species showed that the three dermatophyte genera could not be separated from each other and ...

Epidermophyton-floccosum-Epidemie/ An Epidemic caused by Epidermophyton floccosum

Mycoses, 1983

The growth of Epidermophyton floccosum and E. stockdaleae at different temperatures

Mycopathologia, 1990
The ability of 17 strains of genus Epidermophyton (15 strains belonging to Epidermophyton floccosum, one to E. floccosum var. nigricans and one to E. stockdaleae) to grow at different temperatures (4 degrees C, 25 degrees C, 28 degrees C, 31 degrees C, 34 degrees C, 37 degrees C and 40 degrees C) was stated.

Fatty Acids of Epidermophyton floccosum*** (Harz) Langeron and Milochevitch

Mycoses, 2009
Summary The fatty acid composition was established in a dermatophyte, Epidermophyton floccosum, with the aid of combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The major components, linoleic, palmitic, oleic and stearic acids present were: 42.8, 18.9, 16.2 and 9.6 % respectively.

Antifungal activity of Lactobacillus against Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum and Epidermophyton floccosum [PDF]

open access: yesBioengineered, 2012
A total of 220 lactic acid bacteria isolates were screened for antifungal activity using Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger as the target strains. Four Lactobacillus strains exhibited strong inhibitory activity on agar surfaces.

Existence of ornamentations on macroconidia and hyphae of Epidermophyton floccosum

Annales de l'Institut Pasteur / Microbiologie, 1985
The surface features of cell walls of several recent clinical isolates of Epidermophyton floccosum were examined by scanning electron microscopy. Macroconidia from each of our isolates displayed excrescences on the wall which were similar in their location and in their substructural appearance.

An unusual lipid in the human pathogenic fungus Epidermophyton floccosum

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1979
The dermatophyte Epidermophyton floccosum contains an unusual lipid characterized as 1(3),2-diacylglyceryl-3(1)-O-4'-(N,N,N-trimethyl)homoserine. Its concentration in E. floccosum is approx. 15% of the polar lipids. The role of this lipid in the biosynthesis of polar lipids and fatty acids is not yet known.

[Dehydroepiandrosterone metabolism by Epidermophyton floccosum].

Mycoses, 2002
Steroid hormones may be relevant for the fungus-host relation in dermatophytoses. In contrast to most other hosts of dermatophytes, humans are characterized by a high cutaneous concentration of the adrenal androgen dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulphate (DHEAS).
