The Benign Partial Nonrolandic Epilepsies
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 1991Although rolandic epilepsy is the only epileptic syndrome that, at present, fully meets all the criteria of benignity and is widely recognized as such, there are also other forms of partial epilepsy that are benign. These are also genetically determined and age-dependent, occurring in neurologically intact children older than 18 months of age.

Hereditary Factors in Partial Epilepsy
Epilepsia, 1969SUMMARYIn an effort to characterize the hereditary factors in the non‐generalized epilepsies, a study was made of 51 cases of partial epileptic seizures occurring in subjects whose family included at least one other epileptic. It was possible to classify these cases into five groups, viz.: A group of 15 cases characterized by mid‐childhood epilepsy ...

Preictal headache in partial epilepsy
Neurology, 2005The authors studied clinical characteristics in 11 patients with intractable focal epilepsy and preictal headache (PIHA) using a standardized interview. Headache was frontotemporal, ipsilateral to the focus, in nine patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and contralateral in one with TLE and in one with frontal seizures.

BMJ clinical evidence, 2016
About 3% of people will be diagnosed with epilepsy during their lifetime, but about 70% of people with epilepsy eventually go into remission. We conducted a systematic review and aimed to answer the following clinical questions: What are the effects of starting antiepileptic drug treatment following a single seizure?

Neuroimaging in Epilepsy: Diagnostic Strategies in Partial Epilepsy
Seminars in Neurology, 2008The diagnostic evaluation of the patient with partial or localization-related epilepsy is designed to identify treatment strategies that will permit the individual to be seizure-free. The use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been pivotal in elucidating the presence of an epileptogenic pathological alteration that may coexist with the site of ...

Genetics of human partial epilepsy
Current Opinion in Neurology, 1997A minor genetic predisposition to partial epilepsy has been long recognized. Recently, a group of idiopathic partial epilepsies with autosomal dominant inheritance has been identified. The clinical features and molecular genetic findings in these epilepsies are outlined in the present review.

Functional Partial Epilepsies in Childhood
Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, 1986Abstract: Out of the 314 children with partial epilepsies below the age of 15 who had been followed for more than 5 years, 122 children with functional partial epilepsies (FPE) were the subjects of this study. The specific modality of interictal EEG findings reminiscent of that of the Rolandic spikes (Dalla Bernardina, 1982, 1984) was compared between

Basic mechanisms of partial epilepsies
Current Opinion in Neurology, 2004Partial epilepsies are characterized by cell loss with consequences for neuronal organization, excitability, mnestic and cognitive functions and present with pharmaco-resistance and difficulties in clinical management. While mesial temporal lobe epilepsies present frequently with cell loss and neuronal reorganization, neocortical epilepsies frequently ...

Multimodality imaging in partial epilepsies
Current Opinion in Neurology, 2004The rapid expansion of novel applications and the development of new techniques in structural and functional imaging modalities present a troubling challenge to keep up with and harness potential valuable information created in this critical field of epilepsy localization and non-invasive in-vivo research.Recent advances in epilepsy imaging have ...

[Idiopathic partial epilepsies in children (benign or primary partial epilepsies)].
Revue neurologique, 1987The concept of idiopathic partial epilepsies in childhood is not yet accepted by all neurologists. We review the diagnostic criteria of these syndromes and stress both wake and sleep EEG characteristics. Different clinical entities have been individualized among other forms: benign partial epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes, benign epilepsy with ...
