Implementation and evaluation of simultaneous video-electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The objective of this study was to demonstrate that the addition of simultaneous and synchronised video to electroencephalography (EEG)-correlated functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) could increase recorded information without data quality ...

Circular RNA PTPN4 Contributes to Blood‐Brain Barrier Disruption during Early Epileptogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Epileptic condition induces CircPTPN4 upregulation, which promotes ECE‐1 expression through competitive sequestration of miR‐145a‐5p. The elevated ECE‐1 catalyzes the ET‐1 production, leading to p38/MAPK pathway activation and subsequent downregulation of tight junction protein expression. This cascade results in increased BBB permeability and enhanced

A Translational Study on Acute Traumatic Brain Injury: High Incidence of Epileptiform Activity on Human and Rat Electrocorticograms and Histological Correlates in Rats

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2020
Background: In humans, early pathological activity on invasive electrocorticograms (ECoGs) and its putative association with pathomorphology in the early period of traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains obscure.

Network Properties Revealed during Multi-Scale Calcium Imaging of Seizure Activity in Zebrafish. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Seizures are characterized by hypersynchronization of neuronal networks. Understanding these networks could provide a critical window for therapeutic control of recurrent seizure activity, i.e., epilepsy.

Ictal epileptic headache. an old story with courses and appeals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The term "ictal epileptic headache" has been recently proposed to classify the clinical picture in which headache is the isolated ictal symptom of a seizure.

Cortical Somatostatin Neurons Regulate Seizure Susceptibility via MINAR1/Gαs–cAMP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies MINAR1 as a novel regulator of cortical interneuron excitability and seizure susceptibility. MINAR1 is preferentially expressed in SST+ interneurons. Genetic ablation of MINAR1 leads to seizure hypersensitivity, reduced SST+ neuron excitability, and impaired Gαs–cAMP signaling, disrupting the E/I balance.

Atomically Precise Clusterzymes: A Programmable Optoelectronic Platform for Neuroscience

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Atomically precise clusterzymes, engineered via atomic and ligand design, serve as programmable platforms for neuroscience applications. They demonstrate tailored biocatalysis for neuroinflammation, tunable optical properties for deep‐tissue bioimaging and 3D visualization, and enhanced charge transfer for brain–computer interfaces.

Mild systemic inflammation and moderate hypoxia transiently alter neuronal excitability in mouse somatosensory cortex

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2016
During the perinatal period, the brain is highly vulnerable to hypoxia and inflammation, which often cause white matter injury and long-term neuronal dysfunction such as motor and cognitive deficits or epileptic seizures.

Microglial GPR35 Ameliorates Epileptogenesis and Neuroinflammation via PDGFA Domain 2 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Activation of microglial G protein–coupled receptor 35 (GPR35) by L‐kynurenic acid (L‐Kyna) initiates a platelet‐derived growth factor A (PDGFA)–dependent phosphoinositide 3‐kinase–protein kinase B (PI3K–AKT) signaling cascade that dampens hippocampal neuroinflammation, thereby restraining epileptogenesis, lowering seizure susceptibility, and ...

Methods for calculating EEG-based epileptiform activity index

open access: yesЭпилепсия и пароксизмальные состояния
Electroencephalography (EEG) is mainly used for epilepsy diagnostics in modern clinical practice. Epileptiform activity index (EAI) is recognized as one of the essential quantitative parameters for assessing the presence of epileptiform activity by using
