Suction Elevation of Epiretinal Membranes

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1992
To the Editor. —The surgical treatment of patients with macular pucker from epiretinal membrane formation has become increasingly common with the advent of new vitreoretinal techniques. Typically, after vitrectomy is performed, an edge of the epiretinal tissue is elevated with a bent needle or membrane pick, enabling the membrane to be grasped and ...

Complications of surgery for epiretinal membranes

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 1998
Surgery has been successful in removing epiretinal membranes (ERM) from the macula, allowing some improvement in vision in 80-90% of patients; however, complications are relatively frequent. We conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the rate of peri- and postoperative complications and their influence on functional outcome of eyes having been ...

Epiretinal Membrane Management

2020
Epiretinal membrane (ERM) is one of the common vitreomacular interface disorder. The majority of the patients are asymptomatic, if symptomatic, patients complain of metamorphopsia, diplopia and a decrease in vision. Diagnosis of ERM before the clinical application of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) was mainly on clinical examination. With the use of

Epiretinal Macular Edema Associated With Thick Epiretinal Membranes

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2013
High-resolution imaging with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography has identified an unusual group of epiretinal membranes (ERMs) in the presence of lamellar macular holes. These ERMs are unusually thick. The authors present the case of a patient with age-related macular degeneration who developed edema within a thickened ERM in both eyes after ...

Vitrectomy for Epiretinal Membrane

2012
Macular epiretinal membranes (ERM) are formed by glial cell proliferation that covers the macular surface, and result in retinal thickening and distortion when they contract.

Surgery of Epiretinal Membranes

2015
Vitreous surgery techniques can be used to remove epiretinal tissue associated with various ocular conditions when this tissue is covering or distorting the macula and causing visual loss. The surgical technique and results of the operation are similar in cases with various basic causes.

Surgical removal of epiretinal membranes

International Ophthalmology, 1981
In this paper we present the results of fiftheen consecutive patients who underwent vitrectomy surgery for epiretinal membranes in the posterior pole of the eye, resulting in a visual improvement in 75% of the cases. Complaints of metamorphopia disappeared or decreased considerably in nearly all cases.

Functional and Morphological Results of Epiretinal Membrane Surgery in Idiopathic versus Diabetic Epiretinal Membranes

Seminars in Ophthalmology, 2021
Idiopathic and diabetic epiretinal membranes (ERM) are different in terms of pathophysiology, etiology, and macular morphology, and thus might respond to surgical treatment differently. We aimed to compare the surgical results of two groups.Retrospective case series study of 71 eyes of 66 patients who underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) due to ...

Spontaneous Separation of Epiretinal Membranes

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1980
Three patients had spontaneous separation of an epiretinal membrane from the macular region. Two of the patients had had argon laser photocoagulation of peripheral retinal lesions three to four months earlier. Vitreous contraction, which had led to the fundus conditions that required photocoagulation, may have created alterations in the vitreous or in ...

EPIRETINAL MEMBRANE IN EYES WITH VITREOMACULAR TRACTION

Retina, 2019
Purpose: To describe the occurrence of epiretinal membrane (ERM) in eyes with vitreomacular traction and to correlate the presence of ERM with retinal structural alterations detected using spectral domain optical coherence tomography.
