Orthoplasty (a term used in Europe to refer to chordee excision and penile straightening) in patients with epispadias has provided less than ideal results in the past. We propose a sequential stepwise approach for the assessment and correction of the corporeal deformity, incorporating dermal grafts on the dorsal aspect of the corpora cavernosa when ...

We assessed the incidence, anatomical features and treatment of female epispadias. We studied 10 patients followed from 1 to 18 years. Four were operated on in 2 stages: first, cervicoplasty with original technique, and second, reconstruction of genitalia and distal urethra. Two had only a cervicoplasty.

Although epispadias is considered to be the least severe defect of the exstrophy-epispadias complex, the treatment of this anomaly is far from trivial. Epispadias does not involve the body of the bladder or the hindgut but does affect the urethra and can affect the bladder neck.

Pseudoexstrophy with Epispadias
Urologia Internationalis, 2005The exstrophy variants are uncommon anomalies. The variants of the exstrophy complex have all the stigmata of the classical exstrophy such as divergent recti, widened symphysis pubis, and low-set umbilicus; however, the urinary tract is intact to a varying degree. Pseudoexstrophy, an exstrophy variant, is very rarely associated with epispadias.

Differences in embryogenesis of epispadias, exstrophy–epispadias complex and hypospadias
Journal of Pediatric Urology, 2005Minor variants of a spectrum of anomalies are usually more common than the major variants. Penile epispadias is rare compared with the relatively more common exstrophy-epispadias complex, but it has been assumed that the former is simply a lesser form of the latter.

Exstrophy-epispadias complex encompasses a spectrum of disorders with lower abdominal midline malformations, including epispadias, bladder exstrophy, and cloacal exstrophy, also known as Omphalocele-Exstrophy-Imperforate Anus-Spinal Anomalies Complex. In this review, the authors discuss the epidemiology, embryologic cause, prenatal findings, phenotypic

Epispadias and the Exstrophy-Epispadias Complex
2020Epispadias is a congenital malformation of males in which the urethra opens on the upper surface (dorsum) of the penis. Epispadias is an uncommon congenital malformation of the penis and rarely occur as an isolated defect. The embryology, classification, clinical features, diagnosis and aspects of management are discussed.

Epispadias: Contending with continence
Urology, 1985Forty-seven patients with epispadias not associated with bladder exstrophy were treated at our institution over the last half decade. There were 8 female and 39 male patients, 37 of whom had retrosymphyseal epispadias. Of the 20 male patients with subsymphyseal epispadias and incontinence 13 had a fair to excellent result.

The exstrophy-epispadias complex
Current Urology Reports, 2008Patients with the exstrophy-epispadias complex are one of the most challenging groups encountered by pediatric urologists. They generally require surgery involving several reconstruction techniques, usually performed after the first week of life.
