Two new colonial peritrich ciliates (Ciliophora, Peritrichia, Sessilida) from China: With a note on taxonomic distinction between Epistylididae and Operculariidae

open access: closedEuropean Journal of Protistology, 2019
Two new colonial sessilid species, Opercularia miaoxinensis spec. nov. and Epistylis conica spec. nov., were isolated from the pereopods of freshwater crayfish, Procambarus clarkii in Hubei Province, China from 2016 to 2017. Both species were investigated by living observation, protargol impregnation, and molecular methods.

A new freshwater peritrichous ciliate from Harbin, China, Epistylis lalinensis n. sp. (Sessilida: Epistylididae)

open access: closedZootaxa, 2009
A freshwater peritrich ciliate, Epistylis lalinensis n. sp., was collected from Lalin River, Harbin, China, and its morphology, infraciliature and silverline system were investigated based on living and silver-impregnated specimens. The new species measured 125-187 × 31-47 μ m in vivo and is characterized by having green-coloured endoplasm containing ...

First record of Apiosoma piscicola (Blanchard, 1885) (Ciliophora: Epistylididae) in common carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) (Pisces: Cyprinidae) from aquaculture facilities in North Macedonia.

open access: closedAnnals of parasitology, 2020
A total of 578 specimens of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) from eight the most significant and larger cyprinid aquaculture facilities in Macedonia (fish farms and cage culture systems) were examined for parasitological investigation. Protozoa Apiosoma piscicola was found in cage culture system on Globochica reservoir.

Distribution Patterns and Seasonal Occurrence of Rhabdostyla sp. (Peritricha: Epistylididae) on Dero nivea (Oligochaeta: Naididae)

open access: closedAmerican Midland Naturalist, 1986
Rhabdostyla sp. preferentially infested Dero (Dero) nivea in an alkaline bog stream from June 1982 to December 1983. Rhabdostyla occurred infrequently on two other species of naidid oligochaetes but were absent from nonliving substrates, algae, macrophytes and other invertebrates.

Description of a New Freshwater Ciliate Epistylis wuhanensis n. sp. (Ciliophora, Peritrichia) from China, with a Focus on Phylogenetic Relationships within Family Epistylididae

open access: closedJournal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2016
AbstractTwo populations of Epistylis wuhanensis n. sp., a new freshwater peritrich ciliate, were isolated from different freshwater ponds located in Hubei, China. Their morphological characteristics were investigated using live observation, protargol impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Epistylididae ectoparasites in a colony of African clawed frogs (Xenopus laevis).

open access: closedJournal of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science : JAALAS, 2007
This report describes the discovery and treatment of a multiagent infection in a captive colony of adult, female Xenopus laevis. Animals were determined to be infected with Saprolegnia sp, a relatively common fungal parasite in laboratory-housed frogs, and a less common ectoparasite, Epistylis sp, that had been described only once before in frogs.

Systematic review of the genera Rhabdostyla Kent 1880 and Orborhabdostyla Foissner et al. 2010 (Ciliophora, Peritrichia, Epistylididae)

open access: closedZootaxa
The genus Rhabdostyla is one of the oldest of the family Epistylididae, it was described over 120 years ago and has more than 40 species considered valid. This group went through several systematic changes throughout its existence and due to the lack of taxonomic information, said to be essential, for most species that compose it, some of these changes
