Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, an ultra-rare cancer: a consensus paper from the community of experts

open access: yesESMO Open, 2021
Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is an ultra-rare, translocated, vascular sarcoma. EHE clinical behavior is variable, ranging from that of a low-grade malignancy to that of a high-grade sarcoma and it is marked by a high propensity for systemic ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 2, Page 493-510, February 2026.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma With a Novel Chromosomal Deletion and an Aggressive Clinical Course: A Case Report and Literature Review [PDF]

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncological Medicine, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare neoplastic process arising from the endothelial lining of virtually any blood vessel, with varying degrees of metastatic spread. In the following case report, the clinical course and treatment stratification are detailed for a 59‐year‐old female who originally presented with cervical radiculopathy and ...

Two Cases of Hepatic Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma Misdiagnosed With Hepatic Veno‐Occlusive Disease [PDF]

open access: yesCase Reports in Hepatology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEHE) is a rare tumor of vascular origin with an incidence of < 0.1/100,000. The disease is easily misdiagnosed. The aim of this article is to increase public awareness and vigilance of HEHE. We report two cases presenting with fever, abdominal discomfort, abnormal liver function, and jaundice.

The Diagnostic Dilemma of Incidentally Detected Pulmonary Nodules: A Fatal Case of Pulmonary Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma [PDF]

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 11, November 2025.
Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH) is a rare, low‐ to intermediate‐grade malignant vascular tumour. We present an illustrative case of PEH, aiming to contribute to the ongoing clinical characterisation of this rare malignancy. ABSTRACT Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH) is a rare, low‐ to intermediate‐grade malignant ...

Pleuropulmonary Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma [PDF]

open access: yesCureus
We present the CT, thoracoscopic, and histological findings of a 55-year-old female with pleuropulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma. The CT scan revealed pleuropulmonary lesions, and thoracoscopy allowed direct visualization and biopsy of the lesions.

Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma: Incidence, Mortality, Prognostic Factors, and Survival Analysis Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Database [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of Oncology, 2022
Background Although epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare and aggressive vascular tumor, its demographic characteristics remain unclear. We used the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database to determine the clinical features,
