Hydrothermal co-liquefaction of synthetic polymers and Miscanthus Giganteus; synergistic and antagonistic effects [PDF]

open access: yesACS Sustainable Chem Eng 2020, 8, 51, 19051-19061, 2021
Synthetic polymers constitute one of the main carbon-containing wastes generated nowadays. In this study, combined hydrothermal liquefaction (co-HTL) is evaluated for 1:1 mixtures of Miscanthus Giganteus and different synthetic polymers including poly-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), Bisphenol-A based Epoxy resin, high density polyethylene (HDPE),

Recyclable flame-retardant epoxy composites based on disulfide bonds. Flammability and recyclability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
A series of recyclable epoxy resin (REP) composites are successfully prepared in this study, aiming to improve flame retardancy while keep good recyclability and mechanical properties. The commercial 9,10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-Oxide (DOPO) with high reactive P-H bond is used as highly-efficient flame retardant in this work.

Biolignin™ based epoxy resins [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, 2012
AbstractWheat straw Biolignin™ was used as a substitute of bisphenol‐A in epoxy resin. Synthesis was carried out in alkaline aqueous media using polyethyleneglycol diglycidyl ether (PEGDGE) as epoxide agent. Structural study of Biolignin™ and PEGDGE was performed by solid‐state 13C NMR and gel permeation chromatography, respectively, before epoxy resin

Electrical conductivity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes-SU8 epoxy composites [PDF]

open access: yesAppl. Phys. Lett. vol.102, 223114 (2013), 2013
We have characterized the electrical conductivity of the composite which consists of multi-walled carbon nanotubes dispersed in SU8 epoxy resin. Depending on the processing conditions of the epoxy (ranging from non-polymerized to cross-linked) we obtained tunneling and percolating-like regimes of the electrical conductivity of the composites.

Visualizing key features in X-ray images of epoxy resins for improved material classification using singular value decomposition of deep learning features [PDF]

open access: yesCOMMAT Volume 186, January 2021, 109996, 2020
Although the process variables of epoxy resins alter their mechanical properties, the visual identification of the characteristic features of X-ray images of samples of these materials is challenging. To facilitate the identification, we approximate the magnitude of the gradient of the intensity field of the X-ray images of different kinds of epoxy ...

Thermal Conductivities and Mechanical Properties of Epoxy Resin as a Function of the Degree of Cross-linking [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Epoxy resins are widely used polymer matrices for numerous applications. Despite substantial advances, the molecular-level knowledge-base required to exploit these materials to their full potential remains limited. A deeper comprehension of structure/property relationships in epoxy resins at the molecular level is critical to progressing these efforts.

Material Strength in Polymer Shape Deposition Manufacturing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Shape Deposition Manufacturing (SDM) is a layered manufacturing process involving an iterative combination of material addition and material removal. Polymer SDM processes have used castable thermoset resins to build a variety of parts. The strength of
