A social reading system for EPUB publications

We propose in this paper a social reading system for EPUB3 publications (SRS4ePub), whereby users can share bookmarks and annotations among users. One of the features of this system is that it fully exploits EPUB and its related open standards to make social reading system possible.

Creating Reflowable EPUBs

When it comes to EPUBs, there are two types: reflowable and fixed layout. Reflowable EPUBs are commonly used for long text documents, such as novels and lengthy reading material. Fixed layout EPUBs are documents that appear similar to PDF files. The layout and organization of type and objects for the most part mimic the layout design.

You need to export to EPUB continually, review the results, and invariably return to InDesign to make corrections and modifications in the publication. Then you must export again and review the results. What you see on the computer screen, in terms of the layout and design, is often not what you see in an eReader.
