Impact of six sigma estimated using the Schmidt-Launsbyn vs. the Westgard equation in the Spanish type I EQA program [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Laboratory Medicine
Six sigma methodology (SM) measures process performance using defects per million opportunities (DPMOs). SM has traditionally used the Westgard equation (WM), by which DPMOs are calculated indirectly.

Commutability and traceability in EQA programs

open access: greenClinical Biochemistry, 2018
The concept of commutability of samples has focused laboratories on the importance of traceability. However, the critical role of External Quality Assurance (EQA) in achieving the primary role of traceability (i.e. facilitating comparable patient results in different laboratories) has largely been lost.

Quality Assessment of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Assays of Therapeutic Antibodies Across Europe: An Update. [PDF]

open access: yesBasic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol
ABSTRACT Immune mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are common, chronic, inflammatory diseases. There has been an expansion of monoclonal antibodies to treat the disease. However, the response is not universal; reasons for non‐response may include suboptimal drug concentrations for which therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) may lead to improved ...

Investigating the Factors Affecting the Commutability of Hemoglobin A1C Frozen Pooled Blood Materials. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Clin Lab Anal
Hemolysis increased visual appearance, plasma absorbance, and hemolysis index but did not affect the commutability of HbA1C across CE, CE‐HPLC, and TI. In contrast, BA‐HPLC results may be influenced when HbA1C exceeds 6.23% NGSP, highlighting the limitations of using frozen pooled blood (FPB) in external quality assessment.
