An equatorial ionospheric current system.
From the analysis of the external components of the equinoctial geomagnetic daily variation in Peru it follows that they are generated by a complex current system. In this work it is found that in addition to the global current system and the main electrojet, with I0=0.124Amp/m, it is necessary to include two secondary lateral currents parallel to the ...

Investigation of the response time of the equatorial ionosphere in context of the equatorial electrojet and equatorial ionization anomaly [PDF]
Equatorial Electrojet (EEJ) and Equatorial Ionization Anomaly (EIA) are two large-scale processes in the equatorial/low latitude ionosphere, driven primarily by the eastward electric field during daytime.

Vertical E × B drift velocity variations and associated low-latitude ionospheric irregularities investigated with the TOPEX and GPS satellite data [PDF]
With a well-selected data set, the various events of the vertical E × B drift velocity variations at magnetic-equator-latitudes, the resultant ionospheric features at low-and mid-latitudes, and the practical consequences of these E × B events on ...

Geomagnetic disturbances on ground associated with particle precipitation during SC [PDF]
We have examined several cases of magnetosphere compression by solar wind pressure pulses using a set of instruments located in the noon sector of auroral zone. We have found that the increase in riometric absorption (sudden commencement absorption, SCA)

Metallic ions in the equatorial ionosphere [PDF]
Four positive ion composition measurements of the equatorial E region made at Thumba, India, are presented. During the day, the major ions between 90 and 125 km are NO(+) and O2(+). A metallic ion layer centered at 92 km is observed, and found to contain Mg(+), Fe(+), Ca(+), K(+), Al(+), and Na(+) ions.

The Morphology of Equatorial Plasma Bubbles – a review [PDF]
Plasma bubbles that occur in the equatorial F-region make up one of the most distinguishing phenomena in the ionosphere. Bubbles represent plasma depletions with respect to the background ionosphere, and are the major source of electron density ...

Effects of electrojet turbulence on a magnetosphere-ionosphere simulation of a geomagnetic storm [PDF]
Ionospheric conductance plays an important role in regulating the response of the magnetosphere‐ionosphere system to solar wind driving. Typically, models of magnetosphere‐ionosphere coupling include changes to ionospheric conductance driven by extreme ...

Saturn’s near-equatorial ionospheric conductivities from in situ measurements [PDF]
AbstractCassini’s Grand Finale orbits provided for the first time in-situ measurements of Saturn’s topside ionosphere. We present the Pedersen and Hall conductivities of the top near-equatorial dayside ionosphere, derived from the in-situ measurements by the Cassini Radio and Wave Plasma Science Langmuir Probe, the Ion and Neutral Mass Spectrometer and

Letter to the editor: Electric field fluctuations (25-35 min) in the midnight dip equatorial ionosphere [PDF]
Measurements with a HF Doppler sounder at Kodaikanal (10.2°N, 77.5°E, geomagnetic latitude 0.8°N) showed conspicuous quasi-periodic fluctuations (period 25-35 min) in F region vertical plasma drift, Vz in the interval 0047-0210 IST on the night of 23 ...
