On the occurrence of equatorial spread-F in the evening hours
Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1986By comparing electron drift velocities at Jicamarca with corresponding ionograms and VHF radio scintillation records at Huancayo it has been shown that the day-to-day variability in the occurrence of equatorial spread-F irregularities in the post-sunset period depends critically on the time of reversal of the Sq electric field.

Joule dissipation in F-region and equatorial spread-F events
Nature, 1978The dissipation of turbulent electric fields varying with time, which are associated with spread-F in equatorial regions, has been thought to cause significant heating of the neutral atmospheric gases at F-region altitudes and higher1. The time-varying electric fields have been shown to exist during spread-F at Jicamarca2, and the two phenomena are ...

Three-Dimensional Modeling of Equatorial Spread F
2011The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has recently developed a three-dimensional code to study equatorial spread F (ESF). The code is based on the comprehensive NRL 3D ionosphere model SAMI3 and includes a potential equation to self-consistently solve for the electric field.

ALTAIR Radar Study of Equatorial Spread F.
1981Abstract : The results of research on equatorial spread-F (ESF) phenomena obtained by using two backscatter radars, ALTAIR and TRADEX, are summarized. The radar measurements were made in support of three rocket campaigns conducted from the Kwajalein Atoll during the summers of 1977 through 1979.

On seeding equatorial spread F: Parallel or transverse transport?
Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2013Abstract There is considerable current interest in how the spawning of equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) is affected by the nature of the plasma-seeding process. The process most likely involves an atmospheric gravity-wave and coupling of its wind perturbations to the plasma in the bottomside of the F layer. Neutral-ion coupling can occur either via
