Structural insights into the binding mode of the hypnotic drug vornorexant to orexin receptors

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of the human orexin type 2 receptor–vornorexant complex (3.29 Å resolution) and orexin type 1 receptor docking revealed a conserved U‐shaped binding conformation, explaining the high affinity and balanced dual antagonism of this dual orexin receptor antagonist. The structural data validate the rational design that incorporated a 1,

The multiple dimensions of intraspecific variation in seed dispersal

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Seed dispersal plays a central role in plant ecology and evolution, and understanding its variation is key to predicting species demography and range dynamics. However, dispersal is difficult to measure, and most modelling and field studies assume uniform dispersal ...

Repeated trends in altitudinal gradients of diversity: How habitat filtering and biotic interactions structure ecological communities

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that tropical butterfly communities show remarkably consistent elevational patterns of diversity and phylogenetic structure across regions with contrasting evolutionary histories, demonstrating how regional species pools and local ecological factors jointly shape biodiversity along altitudinal gradients.

Equatorial spread-F campaign over SHAR

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 1997
Abstract A RH-560 rocket instrumented with a Langmuir Probe and two pairs of double probes was launched from SHAR (dip 14 ° N) at 2130 hr LT (1ST) on 4 October 1988 during spread-F conditions. As a part of this campaign VHF scintillations at 136.1 MHz were also recorded, using the beacon onboard the geostationary satellite ETS-II (130 ° E).

The belt of equatorial spread-F

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1960
Abstract The morphology of the belt of equatorial spread-F at sunspot maximum is investigated, using I.G.Y. data, for magnetically quiet and magnetically disturbed conditions respectively. The belt is found to extend from about 30°S to 30°N in magnetic latitude and to have a region of very high incidence, exceeding 90 per cent for the early part of ...

Equatorial spread-F at Ibadan, Nigeria

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1961
Abstract The characteristics of equatorial spread-F at Ibadan (magnetic latitude 3°S) are investigated including nocturnal, seasonal, solar-cycle and magnetic disturbance variations; and all of these are found to show marked correlations with corresponding changes in the height of the layer. For example spreading begins shortly after the evening rise
