Uniform Equivalence for Equilibrium Logic and Logic Programs
2003For a given semantics, two logic programs Π1 and Π2 can be said to be equivalent if they have the same intended models and strongly equivalent if for any program X, Π1 ∪ X and Π2 ∪ X are equivalent. Eiter and Fink have recently studied and characterised under answer set semantics a further, related property of uniform equivalence, where the extension X

On the Expressiveness of Temporal Equilibrium Logic
2016We investigate expressiveness issues of Temporal Equilibrium Logic (TEL), a promising nonmonotonic logical framework for temporal reasoning. TEL shares the syntax of standard linear temporal logic LTL, but its semantics is an orthogonal combination of the LTL semantics with the nonmonotonic semantics of Equilibrium Logic.

Governing principles of transcriptional logic out of equilibrium
Biophysical Journal, 2023Abstract Cells face a myriad of environments and signaling cues. In order to survive, adapt, and desvelop, cells respond to external and internal stimuli, by tightly regulating transcription. Transcriptional regulation involves combinatorial binding of a repertoire of transcription factors (TFs) to DNA, which often results in switch ...

Translating Equilibrium Description Logics into Circumscription [PDF]
Circumscription is a powerful framework for enabling non-monotonic reasoning in Description Logics (DLs) and other knowledge representation languages based on first-order logic. It is very expressive and rather abstract, which is why it is often used as a host language for defining other non-monotonic formalisms. An alternative approach to obtain a non-

Encodings for Equilibrium Logic and Logic Programs with Nested Expressions
2001Equilibrium logic is an approach to nonmonotonic reasoning that generalises the stable model and answer set semantics for logic programs. We present a method to implement equilibrium logic and, as a special case, stable models for logic programs with nested expressions, based on polynomial reductions to quantified Boolean formulas (QBFs).

Contracted Temporal Equilibrium Logic
Proceedings of the TwentyFirst International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and ReasoningThe stable model semantics of logic programs has been characterized by Equilibrium Logic, which is a non-monotonic formalism that selects models from the (monotonic) intermediate logic of Here-and-There. It provides stable models for arbitrary propositional formulas and has been fruitfully extended to different modal languages.

Answer Sets in a Fuzzy Equilibrium Logic
2009Since its introduction, answer set programming has been generalized in many directions, to cater to the needs of real-world applications. As one of the most general "classical" approaches, answer sets of arbitrary propositional theories can be defined as models in the equilibrium logic of Pearce. Fuzzy answer set programming, on the other hand, extends

Infinitary Equilibrium Logic and Strong Equivalence
2015Strong equivalence of logic programs is an important concept in the theory of answer set programming. Equilibrium logic was used to show that propositional formulas are strongly equivalent if and only if they are equivalent in the logic of here-and-there. We extend equilibrium logic to formulas with infinitely long conjunctions and disjunctions, define

On the Logic and Computation of Partial Equilibrium Models
2006The nonmonotonic formalism of partial equilibrium logic (PEL) has recently been proposed as a logical foundation for the partial stable and well-founded semantics of logic programs [1,2]. We study certain logical properties of PEL and some techniques to compute partial equilibrium models.
