River Sand and Gravel Mining: Global Drivers, Impacts, and Pathways for Sustainable Management
Abstract River sand and gravel are mined worldwide at volumes that now rival their natural replenishment, yet quantitative knowledge of this mining activity and its consequences lags far behind many other global environmental pressures. We synthesize 411 peer‐reviewed studies published since 1974 within a new Driver‐to‐Management Pathway for ...

New Semiempirical Formula for Evaluating the Equilibrium Scour Depth at Bridge Piers
Estimating the equilibrium scour depth ( y se ) at bridge piers is essential for both bridge foundation design and flood risk assessment. Traditional methods typically rely on empirical formulas derived from data-fitting procedures, which often result in significant overestimations of the local scour phenomenon.

Colombia and other tropical regions face a very high threat from torrential floods, which have resulted in over 25,000 deaths in a single event. Unfortunately, there is no comprehensive assessment methodology to zone and determine the magnitude of these disasters; therefore, this research aims to help fill this gap.

Viscosity effects on local scour around vertical structures in clear-water conditions
Local scour represents the erosion process that occurs at the base of hydraulic structures overlying sediment beds. Horseshoe vortices forming at the bed-structure junction are the main responsible for sediment removal and dictate erosion rates as well ...

Estimation of Equilibrium Scour Depth Around Abutments Using Artificial Intelligence
This study compares various machine learning models to determine the method with the highest accuracy rate to predict the equilibrium scour depth of bridge abutments. Unlike in previous studies, hyperparameter optimization is focused on increasing model performance in small datasets, and feature importance ranking is analyzed.

Abstract Stem cell therapies have emerged as potential therapeutics of interest for many central nervous system diseases, including stroke, epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases, and traumatic brain injury. Preclinical models are required to evaluate the migration of transplanted stem cells to various areas of the brain, monitor graft survival to ...

Estimation of Equilibrium Scour Depth Around Abutments by Artificial Intelligence
The estimation of clear water scour depth around bridge piers directly affects the stability and safety of bridge structures. An accurate estimation of equilibrium scour depth (Dse) around bridge abutments is crucial for ensuring structural stability.
