A Novel Decellularized Fibrocartilage Graft Promotes Tympanic Membrane Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An off‐the‐shelf decellularized porcine meniscus fibrocartilage graft (MEND) is engineered for pediatric tympanoplasty. Featuring a microchannel architecture that promotes host cell invasion, MEND rapidly closes tympanic membrane perforations and fully remodels in vivo, outperforming fascia and matching cartilage grafts while avoiding donor‐site ...

Assessment of supply chain management of laboratory equipment, reagents, supplies and its potential impacts the quality of laboratory diagnostic services of public hospitals in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Supply chain management process allows the right laboratory commodities in the right quantities in the right condition delivered to the right place at the right time for the right cost. Poor management of laboratory equipment, reagents and other suppliers with recurrent stock-outs of reagents, frequent equipment breakdown was a major gap in

Aqueous Two‐Phase Bioinks for Discrete Packing and Compartmentalization of 3D Bioprinted Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) enable the formation of biomimetic interfaces crucial for tissue engineering. However, clinical translation remains limited by the challenge of precisely controlling cellular compartmentalization. Here, we developed ATPS biomaterial inks for 3D bioprinting allowing tuneable droplet formation via NaCl modulation.

An Edible H2O2 Biosensor for Gastrointestinal Metabolites and Peroxidase Enzyme Quantification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We present an edible biosensor for gastric fluid analysis that integrates a caffeic acid–horseradish peroxidase redox system into an edible electrolyte‐gated transistor. The device enables rapid, low‐volume detection of H2O2 and, with minimal modification, metabolites and enzyme activity in simulated gastrointestinal conditions.

Audits of emergency trolleys’ contents in selected hospitals in Botswana

open access: yesHealth SA Gesondheid: Journal of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, 2012
Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency situation. The outcome depends on timely and effective cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Successful CPR attempts in hospitals require well-equipped emergency trolleys and properly functioning equipment ...

The Floor‐Ceiling‐Chip, or 2 × 2D = Pseudo‐3D—Approaching 3D Cell Morphology and Organization between Two Opposing 2D Substrates with Cell‐Adhesive Protein Micropatterns

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a novel 3D cell patterning and culture platform. The “Floor‐Ceiling‐Chip” (FC‐Chip) consists of two opposing track‐etched membranes, creating a pseudo‐3D microenvironment for the cells in between. By providing the membranes with micropatterned cell‐adhesive islands of varying geometries and sizes, the FC‐Chip enables control over cell ...

Three‐Dimensional Ovary Model to Improve and Study Murine Follicle Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To develop new methods for fertility preservation in women, novel culture systems for small follicles need to be established. In this work, a poly(ethylene glycol) based scaffold, with appropriate mechanical and bioactive features to support mouse follicle and ovary cell growth is developed, and the formed cell‐follicle interactions are visualized ...
