Asbestos Contamination of Abatement Equipment Surfaces

Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 1991
Abstract Uncontrolled, friable asbestos material on the surfaces of asbestos abatement equipment and bagged asbestos waste is commonplace in the industry and a source of unnecessary exposure to unprotected workers and other persons. Equipment, including respirators, ladders, and hoses, is often neither decontaminated properly nor sealed in airtight ...

Impact of vacuum equipment contamination on semiconductor yield

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1992
Contamination control in semiconductor device manufacturing has always been considered an important topic by those working in the field. However, its importance by others has not been uniformly recognized. In this paper we bring a different perspective to the issue by beginning with a discussion of the economics of chip manufacturing.

Contamination of Ultrasonic Nebulization Equipment With Gram Negative Bacteria

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1971
Aerosol sampling of ultrasonic nebulizers (USN) during routine use revealed significant contamination by gram negative bacteria in each instance. Exposure of a sterile USN machine to a patient harboringSerratiain sputum resulted in heavy growth ofSerratiain all parts of the USN after 48 hours.

Air contaminants in a submarine equipped with air independent propulsion

J. Environ. Monit., 2006
The Swedish Navy has operated submarines equipped with air independent propulsion for two decades. This type of submarine can stay submerged for periods far longer than other non-nuclear submarines are capable of. The air quality during longer periods of submersion has so far not been thoroughly investigated. This study presents results for a number of

Prospective Study of Bacterial and Viral Contamination of Exercise Equipment

Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, 2006
Transmission of bacterial and viral pathogens is known to occur by hand contact with fomites. Exercise equipment in public facilities may serve as such fomites. It is not known whether equipment disinfection might reduce microorganism colonization. We performed studies to address these issues.Observational study of bacterial and viral culture results ...

Contamination of Portable Radiograph Equipment With Resistant Bacteria in the ICU

Chest, 2009
Approximately 15% of nosocomial infections in the ICU result from spread of bacteria on caregivers' hands. The routine chest radiograph provides an unexamined opportunity for bacterial spread: close contact with each patient and sequential examination of ICU patients.

Moisture contamination at altitude by balloon and associated equipment

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1966
Abstract : Spectra of the 6.3 micron water band were recorded by a balloon-borne spectrometer at 23.5 km altitude and over a wide range of sun elevations. Reduced in terms of transmittance they show an unexpected increase in humidity with increasing solar elevation angle. This feature is interpreted as a contamination by moisture carried at altitude by

Reducing cross-contamination with single-use equipment

Journal of Operating Department Practitioners, 2014
In the interest of reducing risk of infection for patients during surgery, there has been an increasing emphasis on using single-use equipment in theatre practice. This article explores the literature surrounding single-use laryngoscope blades, surgical gloves and drapes.

Fluorescent Contaminants from Plastic and Rubber Laboratory Equipment

Science, 1965
Plastic and rubber laboratory apparatus contains materials that are extractable with water, aqueous solutions, and nonaqueous solvents. These extractable substances fluoresce under ultraviolet light and were found as contaminants in nutrient solution used for growing excised lemon fruit tissue in vitro.
