Equivalence and difference between institutions: simulating Horn Clause Logic with based algebras
Mathematical Structures in Computer Science, 1995In this paper, we investigate several logical frameworks whose expressiveness lies between Conditional Equational Logic and Horn Clause Logic. The main result deals with thePART-construction, which interprets total based algebras as partial algebras.

There appears to be an association between preoperative opioid use and postoperative complications. We sought to determine whether patients with a history of chronic opiate use (defined as 3 months or more of sustained use) prior to undergoing free flap surgery have higher rates of 30-day complications.A retrospective review of patients undergoing free

Multi‐term π‐institutions and their equivalence
Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 2006AbstractThe notion of a multi‐term π‐institution is introduced and a criterion for the equivalence of two multi‐term π‐institutions in terms of their categories of theories is proved. Moreover, a counterexample that shows that this criterion is false for arbitrary π‐institutions is given. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Children requiring permanent pacing have a lifelong need for follow-up. Epicardial leads have traditionally fared worse than endocardial counterparts. We tested the hypothesis that steroid-eluting epicardial and endocardial leads had equivalent outcomes. We reviewed medical records of 148 children, mean age 8.2 +/- 4.8 years, in whom a dual-chamber ...

Conditionals of the form "If A, then usually B" play an important role in formal approaches to knowledge representation and reasoning. Sets of such conditionals, called a knowledge base, may represent the explicitly given knowledge of an intelligent agent.

The paper presents the assessment of equivalence of the spectral radiance scales in the wavelength range from 250 nm to 2500 nm, reproduced at the national metrology institutes of Korea (KRISS), China (NIM) and Russia (VNIIOFI), carried out in the framework of international comparison.

A note on brute vs. institutional facts: Modal logic of equivalence up to a signature
Dagstuhl Seminar Proceedings, 2009The paper investigates the famous Searlean distinction between "brute" and "institutional" concepts from a logical point of view. We show how the partitioning of the non-logical alphabet—e.g., into "brute" and "institutional" atoms—gives rise to interesting modal properties.
