Correlated physical and mental health composite scores for the RAND-36 and RAND-12 health surveys: can we keep them simple?

open access: yesHealth and Quality of Life Outcomes, 2022
Background The RAND-36 and RAND-12 (equivalent to versions 1 of the SF-36 Health Survey and SF-12 Health Survey, respectively) are widely used measures of health-related quality of life.

The combined shoulder assessment: a convenient method for obtaining equivalent outcome scores [PDF]

open access: yesShoulder & Elbow, 2017
Background Outcome scores are useful tools with respect to quantifying how pain and limitations in strength and movement affect the patient’s functionality and lifestyle. Three shoulder outcome methods [Oxford, Constant and QuickDASH (Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand)] are commonly used in practice but collectively consist of 34 questions ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Potential Effect of PISA Equivalent Questions Using the Context of Aceh Traditional Houses

open access: yesJournal of Research and Advances in Mathematics Education, 2019
The achievement of Indonesian students in PISA remains unsatisfactory, as evidenced by their scores that are below the baseline level set in PISA. One of the contributing factors is that Indonesian students are less trained in solving problems with ...

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Simulative and empirical comparison of health scales’ scores derived by confirmatory factor analysis and sum of items.

open access: yesEpidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health
We focus on how combining questionnaire’s items to derive a score. Data simulation and real data were used to compare questionnaires’ scores derived by sum of items and scores derived from a confirmatory factor analysis.

Testing validity inferences for Genetic Drift Inventory scores using Rasch modeling and item order analyses

open access: yesEvolution: Education and Outreach, 2018
Background Concept inventories (CIs) are commonly used tools for assessing student understanding of scientific and naive ideas, yet the body of empirical evidence supporting the inferences drawn from CI scores is often limited in scope and remains deeply

Equivalent PROMIS Scores after Nonoperative or Operative Treatment of Trapeziometacarpal Osteoarthritis.

open access: yesThe archives of bone and joint surgery, 2019
Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) scores can quantify symptoms and limitations after upper extremity surgery. Our objective was to determine how these scores compare amongst patients with trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis treated either nonoperatively or operatively. In this retrospective comparative study, we compared ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
