Shear tests were performed at strain rates ranging from quasi-static (.01 s−1) to 600 s−1 for DP600 steel and AA5182-O sheet metal alloys at room temperature. A miniature sized shear specimen was modified and validated in this work to perform high strain

Equivalent strain-hardening work theorem
A new physical concept, termed ‘equivalent strain-hardening work’, is proposed. The physical concept can be used to redefine the commonly used effective stress and effective strain theory as applied in constructing the constitutive relations of stress and strain, especially when related to an anisotropic strain-hardening material.

The welding process, which accounts for about 60% of the shipbuilding process, inevitably involves weld deformation. Considering this, productivity can be significantly increased if weld deformation can be predicted during the design phase, taking into ...

A higher order control volume based finite element method to prodict the deformation of heterogeneous materials [PDF]
Materials with obvious internal structure can exhibit behaviour, under loading, that cannot be described by classical elasticity. It is therefore important to develop computational tools incorporating appropriate constitutive theories that can capture ...

A new criterion based on strain determination for dent assessment of pipelines
Dents are one of the most common defects on pipelines and compromise the structural integrity. To date, relevant studies on failure assessment of dented pipelines have been limited, and the existing standard, mainly American Society of Mechanical ...

Semi-soft Nematic Elastomers and Nematics in Crossed Electric and Magnetic Fields [PDF]
Nematic elastomers with a locked-in anisotropy direction exhibit semi-soft elastic response characterized by a plateau in the stress-strain curve in which stress does not change with strain.
